Called State Farm this morning to check on the status of the repair process on Ren after looking at the repair estimate that was posted online. $7K in damages for parts and labor. Yikes.

State Farm wanted to total it out according to the appraiser I spoke to. He asked if I was planning to buy the car back (Hell yeah i do) and if the title was in my name. Told him that it was in my name and the bank's name. He said ok and was going to have to call the bank for the pay-off amount and that he would call me back later with other info.

I get a call 20 minutes later with a message from State Farm. Ren will NOT be deemed a total loss and they are cutting me the check to start repairs. smile.gif Thank you, HFCU, for valuing my car at market value rather than book value. smile.gif

Well the bank knows it's in everyone's best interest, insurance company aside, to keep the car from being totaled. My mom's new Challenger was hit at a stop sign and it was some $4,200 of parts and labour for something you could barely see, what you barely saw was a small crease in the quarter, but knowing what actually caused it you can imagine what was hiding underneath.

They look decent, I think I'll polish the edges and get some better thinner mounting tape.

Haha oh yea, whole 30ft long drain pipe is like that too! Thing is pitched way too shallow if my maths are right, it's at about 1/8th inch per foot drop not 1/4 and really should be more than 1/4 even since it's carrying a slurry of garbage disposal waste.

And after this you should just replace the garbage disposal with a good ole p-trap kit.

I probably will end up doing that, I don't use it. I can use the switched outlet for some under counter lighting or something.

The only time garbage disposal is really of any use is for emptying pans and etc.. of food that there's a lot of liquid, so then you don't have to stand there and strain it out as you put into the trash.

I was offered a smoker(one of the big ones made for towing) and a '91 Chevrolet 1500 5-speed today(yesterday technically). Didn't say which engine the truck had, but judging by the steel rims and that this turns out to be the same one with that Mountaineer and specified 5.0 on that it must be the V6. That's ok, even if it had the 350 I'm just not a truck person.

Steel wheels mean nothing really, seen plenty of 1500 and 2500's with steel wheels. The smoker sounds pretty cool, I might have taken the deal dude.

So upon looking at the repair estimate, most of the parts that insurance wants to replace have been discontinued for some time now. -____- mainly the front bumper and 3 of the 4 factory polished turbo wheels. On top of that, most of the listed prices that they have to replace those parts are way below what current Toyota database has, so the body shop is sending the insurance company a supplement to compensate for the price difference on those parts.

The body shop is gonna see if they can have a 3rd party recondition the current bumper, if not, we're going to have to find an alternative option.

Along with that fiasco, we are trying to get insurance to replace the rear quarter panel versus repairing it mainly due to the fact that someone had already replaced the quarter panel and did a half-*** job on it.

Aside from that, I don't plan to replace the factory wheels any time soon and they don't seem to be heavily damaged, so I will keep them as is instead. Instead, I've asked the body shop to use those funds to towards repainting the whole car and replacing the necessary weatherstripping and mouldings. Hopefully there will be enough as well to cover the PDR guy.

Other than that, I've ordered a few updated bits for the car since it's in the shop: New '97-'98 tail lights, harnesses for the '97-'98 turn signals, and the little '97-'98 bumper inserts. Trying my best to not buy other nick-knacks if I can help it in the mean time. The body shop is wanting me to pick up new headlights, but those may be way out of my barely existing budget unless by the grace of some miracle, I happen to stumble across a leprechaun and his pot o' gold. :\

For now, it's just a waiting game. I'm hoping that I'll get the car back by Christmas. Body shop is gonna start tearing into the car on Monday to see what else is going on underneath.

What about your spare bumper, Alex? I used to heavily prefer the '93-96 tails but the more I see mine the more I prefer them. I saw a set of '97-98 headlights, BNIB, on Facebook for like $450 the other day. I almost grabbed them to resell, now I wish I had gotten them for you.

Can't really drive the smoker though. Had someone else offer a '97 GS300 on dubs earlier today, I just love how people can't read or just refuse to believe me when I say I'll only trade for a two door car with a manual... That still covers a lot of vehicles and I could understand if I were only wanting to trade for a Mustang or F-body with the V8 and a manual, but pretty much any car with two doors and a manual I'd remotely like.

I've thought about it, but nah. I'll see what happens in the next month. Too much work put into the car to ditch it.

I sold that spare bumper as it was in the same condition as my current one as far as damages.

I bought '97-'98 tails that came with harnesses from a '94. lol Had to shave a couple of tabs down to get the bulbs to fit, but they work. lol My current tails have a broken tab on the driver's side, so it's time to replace them anyways and I've been sitting on these '97-'98 turn signals for a while now.

Are you talking about the guy trying to sell the set of headlights brand new for like $200 more than dealership prices? I haven't seen any other lights for sale on FB.

Was offered a primered '98 Civic coupe, I do applaud for reading at least, and what looked like an early 80's C10 stepside today. My brother just mentioned something about adding how I'd add cash for the right trade, but I know that'd just lead to people ignoring what I say yet again and I'll get a bunch of people with 2000's sedans and trucks wanting to trade along with me adding x amount of money... I swear I've actually have had more people offering to trade things I don't want since I've added specifically what I'd trade for. What's also frustrating is the majority of the trades have been of equivocal value but the ones that want to buy it have been lowballers. I'm about to the point of saying screw it and removing the ad and it'll just sit until I find a transmission to put into it.
