Hi all,
Could anyone point me to someone who has done such a swap? Even the 7AFE to 4AGE? I need to know whether or not the 4AFE has the same sensors as the 4AGE 20V (knock sensor?) and are the FE headers ok to fit onto the GE until I get custom headers? Thanks in advance |

The FE and GE may share some sensors but I'd bet most will be different, not to mention the addition of the VVT solenoid on the Silvertop. The header may be interchangeable though, I can't say for certain. I'm not sure about the market in Ireland but the Corollas I've seen with a 4A-FE have an exhaust manifold, not a header, so a major downgrade from the GE's stock header (assuming you have stock exhaust and not an aftermarket header, of course.) The MR2 forums would certainly have better information regarding the 4A-GE than we do here, as it's never been as popular of a swap as the 3S-GTE.
I will recommend doing a search around our forum for 4A-GE swaps though. A word of warning- satisfied 4A-GE swappers are few and far between when it comes to Celicas. Most complain that the car is just too heavy for the engine. It may produce more power and more torque than a 7A but the 7A has a broader torque curve and more area under the curve, so it's much more willing to pull our cars. Some even consider the 4A a downgrade from the 7A. But I totally understand laws in different countries wouldn't allow an S-series swap into a car originally equipped with an A-series engine, or that a 4A is better suited for a purpose built Celica with a gutted interior that will spend most of its time at redline. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Thanks for the info Richie I plan on getting the blacktop with loom and ECU for €650 delivered. I have looked around and understand that the BT is used for more racey situations rather than what the 7A is used for (economy). But I don't really care about that to be honest. Also, I have seen people mention that too, but don't people realize that the AE111 is the same weight as the Celica? Well, 6kg difference from what I have seen on the net. The reason they most likely complain IS because of the low low end torque. Having said that, I have never been in a car powered by any 4AGE, nor am I some seasoned racer, so it is all speculation. I have contemplated about freshening up the engine when I get it with new seals, sparks, pumps, maybe piston rings? Depends how deep I wanna go into the engine. At the moment, either way. My Sexylica has a 4AFE currently. From what I understand, the 4AFE has a MAP sensor as does the BT (correct me if I am wrong). After that though, I am curious as to what other sensors may be different. The reason I ask is just because I wanna save time without having to change the loom (wishful thinking I know). a Also, the reason I don't go with say a 3SGE, is because in Ireland, rules and regs are a giant boner for emissions (saving planet earth and making the environment more friendly or some weird s*** I dunno). Meaning that the higher the engine capacity, the bigger the tax we pay. My car, is registered as a 1.6 thanks to the 4AFE, so I figured bolt in a 4AGE, keep the same tax rate, but have a more horsies Also insurance will be lower lol |
