My 99 Celica Convertiable 8 inch speaker is blown. Does anyone know of a good 8" Mid bass driver that I can use. Current audio setup is just stock. Once I replace the 8 inch speaker I might as well change the rest. Anyone know the size of the stock front speakers?

If you've got premium sound (8 speaker set-up) then its the 8" in the door and a 4" above that with the tweeters near the side mirrors. I don't remember the rear size. |

Cool, finding a good 4 inch shouldn't be a problem. What about the 8inch speaker? On my alltrac I got the Kicker SSMB8, but I am unable to find a mid bass driver for the 99 Celica. Kicker doesn't make the SSMB8 anymore, so what would be a good replacement for a 8" mid-base driver?

parts-express Dunno if this fits, but here's an example. Also check out the "speakers" section. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...number=292-2592 As a bit of extra knowledge: when looking at the specs, try to find something that has 4 ohms impedance and a Qts of about .707 Like these: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=290-356 ===== These are actually PERFECT speakers for what you need them: Qts of .70, 3.5mm xmax, 4ohm impedance... only issue might be the mounting depth but if you can make them fit they will definitely sound good. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=290-310 This post has been edited by Syaoran: May 15, 2012 - 4:36 PM -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

The speaker is actually a 6.5" speaker in an 8" bracket. There is actually a debate in a recent thread about whether those speakers in the 8 speaker system are subs or mids, would be nice to get a final definite answer if you can help

MW170 - Dynaudio 170mm Midrange/Midbass Speaker
Is this the speaker that you got? If so, how is it running with the stock amp? -------------------- 1990 Celica Turbo All-Trac, 1977 Celica GT Liftback, 1999 Celica GT Convertible, 2004 Lexus IS300 5-Speed |

Soundstream, Infinity, Harman Kardon (JBL, Infinity and Harman Kardon are all made by Harman), MB Quart ... higher end Pioneer, higher end Polk Audio, Massive Audio. I'm running a set of Focal 210 CA1 -- woven glass cone, and a sealed rear magnet make for great full-range sound and endurance in the less-than-optimal conditions inside the doors.

All my other celica's had 6.5's but this car is the premium sound with the two amps etc. |

MW170 - Dynaudio 170mm Midrange/Midbass Speaker Is this the speaker that you got? If so, how is it running with the stock amp? I have the three way setup. It's not on the stock amp it's running on an ARC amplifier. And if you notice the price that's per speaker not for the pair. They sell them individually to be able to buy if one blows. |

They sound awesome but their for SQ and life like reproduction. 200 hour break in time which is crazy. Not trying to sell you on getting dynaudio because I have just telling you that you can make the 8" work in the doors. |

Have to have a lot of watts running to this setup. Can't hook it up to a stereo or a small 2 channel amp and expect results. I would say go with the JL 8" middrives for what you want should be a very good sounding speaker and not kill the bank like the dyns.

Meh since someone already bumped this old thread...
I have a 99 GT with the regular 4 speakers n two tweeters. What's considered an equivalent system that will replace all speakers and sound like that of an 2003 Avalon XL trim. im not trying to install any subs either. . thanks This post has been edited by BonzaiCelica: Aug 19, 2016 - 9:54 AM -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts
