You know you own a Celica when you pull up to the trail head and people look at you funny when you magically pull two mountain bikes out of the back, While others have giant suv's or subaru's with bike racks.
I had that look last week, I can fit two mountain bikes (front wheels removed of course) in the back with room to spare for some other stuff. It's not the fastest or the most maneuverable car out there but it definitely makes up for it with pure convenience and reliability. |

That was one of my favourite things about the Celica and my current car the Firebird. Being liftbacks with fold down rear seats there's a lot more cargo room than you'd think just from looking at them. Why manufacturers stopped making liftbacks is beyond me, last one I can think of is the Scion tC and of course they're gone now. You get sporty looks and utility, I fail to see the downside outside of potentially heavy lifts and perhaps partially reduced rigidity. If any of the current sports coupes were liftbacks they'd be greatly improved as far as being usable daily drivers.

You know you own a Celica when;
A parts car seems like a perfectly reasonably purchase. You get asked " is that the all wheel drive one" every car meet. you learned that Toyota does and will change its mind when designing more or less everything every other year. you get saddened and immediately justify why yours /isn't/ a gt4 the other side of the world will have cooler parts. when parts shopping you will repeat "will that fit in my chassis?" bottom of doors, didn't need them anyways, let them rot. 5s-fe, oh you mean 3s swap, oh you mean 3s-gte, oh you mean ..... "its basically an mr2 but the other way" there is always a big brake upgrade one way or another. you get told " I like the ______ (supra,mr2,ae86) better" you google search consists of : Motors that come in celica 5s-fe upgrades motors swap in celica beams in celica beams motor price v6 swap? |

when you first joined the forum and realize you still have it after 10+ years and you just want to try all the jdm parts and front ends, and you then realize you spent so much on it, you can't go back and sell it or get rid of it, it becomes part of you and you cant ever get your money back. becomes a life size toy model for me.

When every time you see another one in public, you subconsciously note if it has JDM tails, the S2000 antenna conversion, TRD spats, etc.
When you refresh the classifieds forum once a day waiting for "FS: Projector headlights - $120 shipped". When you can tell how much people know about cars based on the first question they ask about yours ("Is that a Supra/GT-Four?" vs. "Nice Celica, but what hood is that?"). When you buy a GT-Four in Forza Horizon 2 (which takes place in Italy) and wonder why they made it RHD and included a full Vis body kit for it, but they didn't go the full length to put in the JDM headlights or taillights. When you see a 7th gen in public and wonder if they realize how much better looking your 6th gen is. When you initially bought it just because it was cheap, had a nice "rally" stance, and had great online reviews, but you quickly realized just how much potential it actually has. I've only owned mine for about 5 months, and I'm already way sucked in to the lore behind it. When you have a "favorite" 6th gen owned by someone on here who can actually afford serious mods. When it's the first car you've owned that makes you realize all the hype about importing parts from other domestic markets. And finally, when your girlfriend hates it because it's "too 90's". Just wait until I buy confetti seats... -------------------- |
