So it's a transmission map program issue & the way the traction control system works?
Seems like you like the older one because of the V8 & lack of a traction control system. |

No, there’s significantly more to it than just the trans map and the V8. Those are big pieces of the puzzle but I’d go on a rant if I lay out all of the reasons that my ‘06 was better. I was never really in favor of getting rid of the old one but the wife prefers the 5th gen and they gave us a good deal. Happy wife, happy life.
... except that she dislikes this one quite a bit too. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Even Socrates told us to use the search button!

Finally swapped in the 03+ darker dash center console for my damaged light sparkly silver one as well as my cracked HVAC panel. I kept the brighter silver knobs though, kind of like the look. I do dig the darker center console on the dash, seems less distracting when driving and doesn't stand out as hard. I need to get the shift surround and shifter face plate though at some point.

If I were to magically be able to keep the Firebird I'd like to swap in the dash, dash pad, steering wheel, and center console from a '01-02 car since they were black and it'd cut windshield glare. That's the one thing I really disliked about the earlier 7th gen Celica, the bright grey glare inducing dash. The rate things are going I'll just cancel insurance and not renew the tag and put it up on blocks for the next twenty or so years since I can't bring myself to sell something I can't even use anymore. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Holy rev-limiter abuse Batman.
I don't want to sell the Firebird because I like it and the odds of finding another like it are nil to none, but apparently my body has decided I need steel rods for tendons and ligaments throughout my legs from now on. Lately my legs are numb on their own, much less attempting to drive it. The only cars that don't bother me are the Miata and Audi but that's because the clutch is so light, and especially the Miata. The ride comfort in the NB2 is actually pretty good, was surprising actually and that's with 16's on it and not 15's that should ride a little softer. The only other car that's RWD and lightweight made in the same time frame is the MR-S, though it has a longer wheelbase it also uses struts and not shocks which transmits more force into the chassis. So would just need to test one not only for that but to see how it drives compared to the Miata. The only other potential option would be a S14 240SX, but they're kind of on the chunky side in the mid 2,800 pound range and it's been my experience a 3,000 pound car feels more like a 3,500 pound one than it does a 2,500 pound one. That and finding a not fubared 5-speed example is near impossible. That's really what it's down to though, at least I know I really like the NB2 but now with my brother having one that'd kind of take away somewhat from having one myself. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

If you want to fund the hand clutch conversion I'll keep it, but as of now it's just been sitting not driven because I can't drive the damn thing. I had bought everything to redo the brakes because I fully intended on keeping it, and then this **** happened.
If my life wasn't **** I'd take it somewhere and have everything done so I can drive it, but my life is **** so he were are. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

It's just frustrating, having what you can and can't do being dictated by something beyond your control. Now it's dictating what I can and can't drive on top of everything else. The one thing I'd do to help get away from it and get my mind off it I can't do anymore, but I finally get the car I've wanted since I was a kid and one exactly how I wanted one. So yeah, there's a whole lot of ****ing indecision going on. If it were red with T-tops or whatever it'd be easier to just say, "Oh well life sucks more now and can't drive it anymore, so I guess will sell it." If I had the money I'd do whatever it took to make it to where I could drive it, custom clutch setup or hand clutch conversion or whatever. I don't though, those are multiple thousands of dollars. Part of me is stupid and keeps hoping it'll just magically get better, but it won't. Like my neck and shoulders just started acting up one day around this time last year, and now the tendons and ligaments are constantly tight no matter what. Yeah some days are better than others, but for almost a year now it's been that way every day. Now it's my legs doing the same thing... I guess just have to sell it and get over it, then buy something else I might like as much.

Well everything for the Miata has arrived except for the top lock caps from Flyin' Miata, figured that'd have been the first thing since I'd imagine they'd go out in a small USPS package or envelope. Hopefully it gets here tomorrow or Saturday, since the top isn't sealing down as good as it should with the lock caps broken off.

I was two LED’s short a few nights ago when I swapped the bulbs in the 4Runner, so off to eBay I went. Got them installed tonight, and I regret looking directly at them. :amimpressed:

Going to kill that night vision any time you turn on a light. I've become a huge fan of amber lighting like some of the BMW have used, a lot easier on the eyes when a light comes on. That's another thing I like about the NB2, amber instrumentation lighting from the faactory. I think the MR-2 Spyder also uses amber, which would make sense since the 7th gen Celica did.

I just like making sure there are no burglars in my car at night. Or in 6 cars either direction from mine.
My IS300 had amber lighting and I hated it. It always felt cheap at night. My old 4Runner had it though and it seemed right. I personally prefer white interior lighting but I’m kind of boring in that way. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. That's why you get a small car and then there's no room for burglars to hide.
My brother is the same way, insists of blinding white interior light and every time I ride with him at night I go blind for a few seconds any time a light comes on. For me it's a safety thing, that and I find the amber lighting kind of soothing. The Genesis also has blue gauges and instrumentation lighting, so between that and his super bright white interior lighting it's an assault on your retinas. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Welp I added another vehicle to my Stable! 2000 4runner limited with locking rear diff and heated seats. Brand new tires. 98% rust free. Rides like a dream, I've always wanted one, but wanted it for the right price. At least it matches my silver 3sgte. My neighbor asked if I was starting a miniature Toyota dealership, my response was, I'm on at 2 celicas, 1 lexus sc400 and a 4runner. There's still room to expand

Congrats! That's ok my brother is starting his own dealership since he's up to 5 vehicles now between the '12 Genesis Coupe, the '06 Audi A4, the '03 Miata, the '00 Durango, and the '70 LTD. Though he's been trying to sell the LTD and will be getting rid of the Durango as well. He should just let me drive the Miata during the week since he'll never use it anyway between the Genesis and Audi, that and he already said he won't be driving it now that it's getting colder outside. >.>
