For what it’s worth, my BEAMS running on three cylinders pulled harder than a dual cam KA S14. There’s a reason not many of them are stock. You get the speed of a Miata without the handling, but on the upside at least the top won’t leak. S13 hatches have always been my favorite of the 240’s. Is the coupe you found a pig nose?

I like the C5 cause pop up lights, that and it's more rounded than the C6 which I like.

You don't have people give you crap for driving a 240SX, whereas they do with a Miata. So there's that. Plus from what I can tell the 240SX can be good for autocross, time attack, touge type stuff if setup for it. Just no one really chooses to and rather turn them into drift missiles. Plus the 240SX is actually useful as a car whereas not so much with the Miata, that and based on interior dimension specs should have a bit more shoulder room. The one glaring downside is a stock one would be slow, but I rather have a stock example with relatively low miles than one that's been swapped and is all kinds of fubared. The coupe I found was a '91-93 with a little over 100K miles on it and looked all stock except for the rims and exhaust. Meh, they're all slow stock... The 300ZX just worries me with how quickly they can become money pits, and it's not really much faster than a Miata or 240SX. SC300 is stupid rare with a manual, and it's slow stock too being somewhere among the others. Though at least it'd be super comfy and I couldn't foresee reliability being an issue.

For what it's worth we did two cycle oil mixed into the fuel of my brother's Maxima and it seemed to clear out/lubricate the injectors and kept the rest from failing after replacing two. Though using something like Marvel Mystery Oil probably would've accomplished the same thing. For what it's worth rotary guys swear by either two cycle oil, MMO, or that stuff from Idemitsu made specifically for rotaries.

I'm definitely going to look at different options for headlights, I know stock they blow. I have my check list courtesy of the vette forum. Still going to have what ever vette I do purchase to be gone through at a Chevy dealership.

The easiest and least expensive option that'll work well will be to do an ECE H4 conversion with relay harness, what I did in the Firebird and it's exceptional.

The best tools are the ones you make yourself.

Sigh, I need to get around to dusting off the Firebird. Literally... It reminds me of model cars on a bookshelf that go untouched, it's sad.

The C5 headlight isn't just a sealed beam, it's a composite lamp assembly with a fluted lens. The C4 was a sealed beam I believe.

And while there may be ECE pattern lights available they're going to be so terribly incredibly rare to find in LHD pattern that you may as well just go and buy a 2007 Camaro instead.

I know, but someone made an adapter kit to use the 165mm Hella H4(or anyone else) lamps like mine. I came across it when looking one time at the various options out there for them. The C4 was a 200mm sealed beam, so it'd be a direct swap like mine was. Then I think someone else made a crystal clear housing that used 9011 and 9012 bulbs as well for the C5. Someone is making lamps with bi-xenon projectors but they're pricey at right under $700, probably a mini H1 since they don't specify but at least the probably cheap Chinese HID kit is also included right?

I keep looking at the WRX from '02-03, can find nice sub 150K mile examples for around $4,000 now. I like the wagon more, but it seems all of the aftermarket parts are for the sedan for whatever reason. Which looking struts and rear springs(also coil-overs I'd imagine then) are different, sway bars are also different, as are lower control arms or any suspension links. Shame since the wagon is more to my liking. I dunno, just looking at cars that match the performance and price of the Firebird stock for stock there's not much. There's the WRX and RX-8, of course the RX-8 is a RX-8... Maybe a 350Z, but it'd be an '03-04 with 150K+ miles on it and would be all the money from selling the Firebird. Ehh maybe a Z32 TT, but I imagine one for around $5,000 is destined to be a money pit. Really about it, anything else is more expensive or just as expensive and considerably slower. Which I'd like a Miata or perhaps a 240SX, but eventually would want to swap or do a turbocharger kit of sorts. I suppose maybe a 5th gen Celica All-Trac if one could be found, but I doubt it and one worth buying is probably more than $5,000 now. Maybe a MR2 Turbo, but again finding one worth buying for around $5,000 probably isn't going to happen. Can't really think of anything else. I guess there's stuff like the Eclipse GS-X or 3000GT VR-4, but just no... I think I rather take chances with the RX-8. Meh, this doesn't help the fact I don't want to sell it anyway. Though I think with the RX-8 I think if you found one with good compression on all the seals on both rotors as long as you maintained it as you should you'd be ok for awhile.

MK3 MR2 and swap in a 2ZZ+C60.


I finally installed the nylon starter gear on the snow blower so it's got electric start again, runs off wall current to start which is cool, no dead batteries. It's really so much easier than the pull starter when starting from cold, prime, choke, push, and go. Hot restarts with the pull start is fairly easy once the carb is adjusted right, and I finally got around to googling which screw adjusts which thing, idle screw is the one closest to the engine, I need to stamp a big I on the carb somehow so I don't forget. It's supposed to snow tomorrow, kind of looking forward to using it!

Box, I doubt if you’d be happy with a 350Z after the Firebird. As a totally different and unrelated car, it’s great fun. But in comparison, you lose the V8 and loads of torque (plus lose V8 symphonies for a UFO burble.) They’re decently quick in a straight line but anything after 80 mph in my old Z, I was well aware I only had a 3.5 liter six cylinder under the hood. I suspect the Firebird still pulls harder at that point. I can’t compare handling, having never driven a Firebird. The Z was eager to do whatever I wanted it to but it was still a 3,400 lb sled. I had a friend with a six cylinder Firebird back in high school and I agree that front visibility was atrocious, but keep in mind that the Z isn’t much better out of the side or rear. Definitely better out of the front though. I just think the Z will fall short of your expectations after the Firebird. At least cars like a Miata or RX8, you are aware that you’ll lose a good bit of power but have excellent cornering but I think a Z will always be in the shadow of the Firebird for you. Maybe not though, it never hurts to test drive any of them.

The MR2 Spyder kind of goes in with the Miata and 240SX. I just really don't want to have to deal with swapping something, which at least the Miata there are plenty of turbocharger and supercharger kits. Maybe something out there for the 240SX KA24DE or MR2 1ZZ-FE, haven't really looked yet to see what's available but there's probably something I'm sure. It's just nice not having to futz with the powertrain to get where you want it to be.

You mean to sway pushing a button is easier than pulling a cable? tongue.gif Well maybe you'll have a white Christmas Eve to play with your newly fixed gadget.

I thought the earlier Z was around 3,200? or at least that's what I remember seeing when looking. Even that seems a bit heavy for their size and that it's an all aluminum V6, being the Firebird being as big as it is and with a cast iron block V8 is right under 3,400 pounds. That's kind of my thought process as well though on cars, just get something really light like the Miata and take care of the lack of power later down the road. Can always add power but can only remove so much weight, kind of being the thought process. With the 350Z was thinking it'd be a decent blend of handling and straight line performance out of the box, and would have the most torque out of the options mentioned aside from a WRX perhaps. Would like to find one locally to test but the ones I've come across have been automatic and/or the convertible.

Thank you guys for the info. I'm looking into all aspects for the headlights. But I had 2010 camaro for all of 9 months and I hated it. Sounded like a tin can inside. It had more body roll than my srt8 300. I'm 100% decided on a C5 z06, the upgrades are out there. The support is great for that platform.

I think people like the Depo and ACA lights quite a bit. There's also factory T84 lights for the Euro markets, but they're pretty pricey as new old stock from vendors. Might get lucky and find a used set from private party. That or maybe look into the ACA lights and see if doing a D2S projector is possible.

Snow blower started without the primer at all, just choke, push button, and go. I pushed it through the 3 inches of snow as fast as I could and couldn't bog it down at all.
