Did you make sure to get a metric crescent wrench and plier set? Make sure you get metric vice grips, you don't want to round anything.

Sears sells a Craftsman tool set that's strictly all metric sizes. It's nice since 99% of the cars I work on use metrics. My SAE sockets/wrenches from previous tool sets are still sitting in a box in a corner of my room.

Even my 90's American car uses all metric. Which for 99% of people working on their daily driver, or a friend or family member's daily driver, a full metric set is the way to go.

Work on a Landrover! The BMW engine is all metric but the body and suspension is Standard cause it's British, except where it's metric because it's British. At least it's not Whitworth.

I’ve never had the displeasure of working on a Land Rover but I did a brake job on a Buick Rendezvous once. I can’t imagine how the rest of that jalopy is, the way the engineers couldn’t figure out metric vs SAE for a simple brake job.

No, GM just uses weird metric sizes. 15mm and 18mm, for some weird reason, they've got a raging boner for.

I seem to recall 13mm when doing something with the Firebird. If I had to take a guess the reason for the odd metric sizes is they're the closest to the imperial size that was used in the past, 13mm being closer to 1/2" than 12mm for instance.

In researching the RX-8 and rotary engines turns out Yamamoto Kenichi passed away on Christmas at 95 years old, he was the one that was responsible for the rotary being developed at Mazda and being put into production into cars like the Cosmo and RX series. He was also partially responsible for the Miata coming into existence by setting its development into motion. Rest in peace Mr. Yamamoto, you brought some very interesting and exciting cars into this world for everyone to enjoy.

They also have it in stores for purchase. tongue.gif I'm still trying to find someone that has the Shell T6 multi-vehicle, it's been out for awhile now and no one seems to have it.

you can find the Rotella T6 at Wal-mart, Vatozone, O'reilly, Advance, etc. debating about switching to that in the Supra for the next oil change instead of the usual Mobile 1.

Yeah the regular T6 5W-40, but not the multi-vehicle 5W-30 they've come out with.

After extensive thinking if I'm going to get something impractical it might as well be light and small, so might as well be a Miata. The 350Z is equally impractical but a lot heavier and bigger, and my biggest issue with the Firebird(aside from not being to drive it at the moment) was more so the size and heft of it even more so than the solid axle at times. Same kind of goes with the 300ZX that's just as heavy as the 350Z in N/A form or even heavier than the Firebird in turbo form, and it's not all that practical either but more so than the 350Z. A SC300 is over 3,500 pounds and rare, so kind of rules it out. The Firebird's magical V8, practicality, and comfort make it ok whereas I feel I'd have a much harder time making that exception for the aforementioned. As much as I like the idea of a RX-7/RX-8 it's just hard to trust and find a trustworthy example, being the only way I'd consider buying one means buying a $350 rotary compression tester kind of kills any notion of getting one. Which if one passed compression testing and you maintained it properly you'd be ok I think, but it'd still be a matter of when it'll fail and not if. MR2 Turbo would be an option as would the Celica All-Trac, but finding one worth buying for $5K I won't hold my breath. The 240SX I'd still consider one if a nice example could be found, yeah it's about 300-500 pounds heavier than a Miata depending on NA/NB or S13/S14 but at least it's practical and useful as a car. Then there's the WRX which is actually not that heavy all things considered, just over 3,000 pounds for an AWD turbocharged sedan is pretty impressive and it'd be the most practical outside of maybe the All-Trac or S13 liftback.

So basically I'm pretty much down to:
NA8 or NB2 Miata
S13 liftback or S14 240SX
"bug eye" WRX

The three choices above all have probably some of the best aftermarket support out there for their class, and I think based on what I've found and personal experience with cars they're the best options out there. The Miata is well a Miata, small and light and fun to toss around with reckless abandon. Can be swapped or turbocharged for more power, and I really do genuinely like them. The 240SX is the smallest and lightest RWD coupe/liftback(practical car) that isn't a RX-7/RX-8 or new/expensive FR-S/BRZ/86. Like the Miata it can be swapped or turbocharged, and aftermarket support to make them handle is out there but just gets overshadowed by their use in drifting. I also like the look and idea of them, a fairly small and light RWD 2+2 with nearly infinite possibility. The WRX is kind of stepping outside of my comfort zone being a sedan, but looking at it just as a car and what it can do it's hard to ignore and somewhat silly to pass off just because I don't care for the number of doors on it. That and for the crappy roads around here what could be better than an AWD rally car? Plus I like the idea of being turbocharged and AWD(not slow stock), and having a little more hidden potential to unlock with bolt-ons and a tune. That and the semi-sleeper look is appealing to me, and I dunno I just like the idea of AWD and how the car is setup for the roads around here. I like the Audi A4, so I figure the WRX being more performance minded than the posh Audi will be even more to my liking. So that's pretty much where I stand after countless hours of researching forum posts, reviews, and videos on YouTube. Of course if my leg will regain feeling and control then none of this really matters anyway as I really don't want to get rid of the Firebird, but being registration expires in February I guess I just need to get over it and sell it since there's been no sign of things getting better.

Car died and lost its remote programming so hooked up the battery charger, and then it set off the alarm and locked me inside of it when reprogramming the remote. I don't think it's happy with me, which I can't blame it but it's not like this is what I wanted. Sigh, should've just sold it to that kid to wrap around a tree and kill himself. But nooo I have feelings towards it and a conscious. It wasn't easy selling the Celica, but knowing the one buying it really cared for it was really the only thing that made it possible. I actually walked away from someone prior to that because I knew they didn't care about it by the way they rubbed their fat ass against the seat bolster getting into it, and then proceeded to talk the car down. **** you I don't have to sell it, YOU DON'T DESERVE IT. So that's pretty much the same attitude here but intensified since I don't want to sell it. Hence why there's 3 months of dust buildup, a bad battery, and questionable 93 octane in the tank.

Personally I would sell it, but winter time is a bad time for rwd usually. Perfect time to buy tho. I've parted ways with a couple of vehicles recently so I can purchase my C5 in cash instead of dreaded car payments.
