First 1UZ swapped one I've seen in recent memory, most everyone does LS swap for a V8 and maybe a few that still do the Ford 5.0 Windsor. Though I imagine you can get an 1UZ and W58 a lot cheaper than a LS1 and T-56, but then you have to figure in the cost of the 1UZ/W58 adapter kit and then you have the nearly unlimited aftermarket potential with the LS versus the nearly non existent aftermarket potential of the UZ. Unless things have changed recently the only way to make more than stock with the UZ was to go with a custom supercharger or turbo setup. Either way it's still cool and nice to see something different. Honestly depending on which incarnation of the 1UZ was used 250-300 hp is really more than enough for a Miata anyway.

I need to find me one of the 3,800 or so manual SC300 out there since that'll weigh in on my decision making. I can't foree the clutch in a Lexus being heavy, but who knows.

After thinking about it I'd consider an IS300 5-speed as well and the IS300 actually has a LSD where the SC300 didn't, so there's that and I think the IS300 is also 200-250 pounds lighter even though it's a sedan. Plus there were 13,100 or so manual IS300 versus the 3,800 or so manual SC300. So meh... as I'd want to put in a Supra or some aftermarket LSD into the SC300 and that's probably around $1,000-2,000, and it seems equal condition there's not much price difference to the SC300 and IS300 despite the IS being 5-13 years newer.

Yeah, I came across some video reviews on it and the dash and center console along with a few other things are pretty abysmal. Like straight up Corolla quality, nowhere near what I'd expect from a Lexus anyway. That's ok after looking around you can get a Tomei or KAAZ LSD for the SC300 for around a grand, so that's not too bad.

Lexus will replace it for free if you throw a big enough fit.

I found a post with recall information for a lot of models, but the first gen IS300 wasn't one of them. So they will replace it if you raise enough ruckus? I'd hate to have to do that though. Personally just based on the cars from an aesthetics standpoint inside and out I rather have the SC300, but from a feasibility standpoint the IS300 is the more likely choice in terms of availability and "bang for buck" as it were. The IS300 is one of the few sedans I like the looks of though, along with the first GS430 which I really like the looks of for some reason.

Lexus IS all about customer service. That’s their big thing. You don’t get nearly as luxurious of a car for your money as you do with the German cars, but Lexus makes up for it by bending over backwards to keep their customers happy. I could list all the specific examples I’ve seen but I’ll limit it to the IS300 dash. I never had any issues with the dash in mine but we had a few customers pay full price for dashes, one threw a medium fit and Lexus covered part of the price of the dash, and one customer threw a huge fit and Lexus replaced it at no cost to the customer (and all got the standard loaner car while their dashes were being replaced.)

Hmm, alright. Though I'd still feel kind of daff asking for the dash to be replaced in a 13-16 year old car that wasn't on the recall list, unless they updated it to include the first gen IS300 from the time of that post I found. Which I was always under the presumption you bought a Lexus, Infiniti, or Acura for the reliability in exchange for whatever luxury you'd lose out on from a comparable German car.

I just soldered a NCR18650B to battery tabs I yanked off a no-brand no-name Chinesium battery from my $12 clone of a $50 Astro light wand to upgrade it to the same battery capacity as the $70 version of the $50 Astro light. I'm waiting for the fire and smoke as it's charging over in the corner. I think I'll put it in a big stainless steel bowl.

Today we added a new ride to the stable. Part of me wants to wait until we pick it up Saturday just to see what you guys guess what we’d buy next.

Alright to make it easier you should at least let us know if it's brand new or the decade when it was made.

It could be anything though. A car, truck, SUV, minivan, or one of those crossovers that're all the rage now.

I’ll narrow it down a little. It’s a 2012, but basically brand new. It’s Japanese, and we did not get rid of any of our vehicles for it. It’s definitely not a minivan, truck, or a crossover.
