Hey all, I have a 94 GT-S and I’ve purchased now my second set of lowering springs for this car and they do not fit. The first set I bought were completely wrong and the Teins I just ordered came in and they don’t fit either. They’re too small at the top and bottom. I have no idea what to do now I’ve tried to install these things twice I’ve ordered them for this car, and I’ve had the struts out now twice, so getting really frustrated and wondering what the heck it is I’m doing wrong.

Thanks for your time.

I don't think the ST202 ever had SuperStrut as an option, but it's possible someone added it. I think Tein, at least at one point, made springs for both the SuperStrut and standard McPherson strut cars. Perhaps the issue lies there. Maybe it could be the struts if they aren't a reputable brand like KYB, Bilstein, KONI, etc... I can't recall if 5th and 6th gen springs and struts are interchangeable albeit different, but perhaps something is going on there if someone went junkyard shopping for suspension at one point. Which honestly if you're going to lowering springs you should be replacing the mounts and struts anyway if they haven't been recently replaced, so might take a front and rear spring to a local parts house to see if they have the mounts and struts and see if you get a match.

Try ordering straight from Tein?

See that one you sent me lists for AT200, 1800 engine size. I have a ST204 with a 2.2. Would that affect suspension type?

I might have to do that except I cannot return the springs after a few more days so I don't have the time to wait for new struts and size them. This is the frustrating part about ordering automotive parts online I guess.

I was wondering about the GT-S, would that have something to do with it? I am not sure if GT-S is a Canadian spec only. I know it was with the 7th gen. Thank you guys SO much for your assistance.

I don't know why my replies aren't showing up so I can't see my last one, but I definitely do not have Superstrut suspension.

The strut assemblies are the same between the two, I believe.

post up some pics of the springs themselves.
springs should fit regardless of ST, GT, or GT-S. I have two AT200 and have put springs/struts from a GT on no problem.
I'm gonna ask some questions just for clarification sake, nothing against you just want to be sure as well but:

Are you installing the front springs to the front and the rears to the rear? they are different and if mixed up might be why its not fitting correctly.

Are the springs you ordered for our year celicas, 94-99 and not for the 7th gen 2000+ celicas? Since you said GT-S and the order form or company or whoever you ordered from may have just seen, oh GTS celica and gave you 7th gen springs.

and lastly, are these brand new springs from a reputable company or just some seller on ebay? because it may be that they just have a box and a random set of TEIN springs and threw it all together and sold it as springs for your car when it's not.

again pics would be helpful.

He's in Canadia, so the GT-S is probably one of the low-key trim levels they got up there.

It would be helpful to get pics I realise, however the struts are in the car as it's my daily driver and the springs had to be returned ASAP in order to get my money back. Both sets were ordered off Ebay, from a source that had good ratings. They are definitely not mixed up. I'm an auto tech actually so I know how they fit. The springs literally didn't fit so I guess what has really happened here is I've been unlucky and twice received the incorrect parts. That being said, we triple checked everything and compared it to the ebay ads and they should have been right. So... that left me to ask here as to whether or not there are any differences between Canadian GT-S models or something else I'm missing. Genuinely not wanting to give up on this car but I have literally broken springs in the rear and used parts are impossible to find. Wanted lowering springs but I'm afraid to order and get nailed to have to pay return shipping again.

It's a 1994 GT-S. I was under the impression they all had the same setup as well. Anyhow, thanks for the reply. I'll have to likely figure it out myself somehow.

man, looking around, there aren't many options left for drop springs for these cars. At this rate, you can probably do CXRacing or Megan Coilovers for a few bucks more.

Tein springs I got fit my 96 GT perfectly, just like the OE springs I took out.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "springs don't fit"? Top hat, bottom seat? What exactly does not fit? Either you indeed managed to find a set of fakes, something is very wrong with your suspension, or you're just doing something wrong.

Well I'm sorry I can't get pics. I don't know how else to describe it. The springs are too narrow in diameter to fit over the strut after you remove the top. They are literally too small and the strut is too big around. I don't know what else I can say. It makes zero sense to me. And I'm a mechanic so I know what I'm doing. I've never encountered anything quite like it. I guess I'm just hooped.

I have been looking at the shock/strut combo on Ebay by Stagg. Maybe best to replace shocks anyway so might as well get a set I know will fit. Anybody have experience with those?

Put the eBay auctions you got them from.

Yep the ones I got both times the rears were about half that diameter, those look like what they are supposed to be. My husband ordered them so I’ll have to grab that.

I'm going to make a bold assumption, he got some generic springs made for coil overs or something.
