Do we, as in GT owners, manual's of course, have a chance against the Ford Probe GT and the 92+ predlude vtec 2.2? Any body with experience?

Is it because we have the same sized engine, and they have the variable valve timing? I'm guessing that's correct.

That's part of it. The H22 has higher compression, DOHC VTEC, and is a performance motor. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

You should walk the 92 Probe. I think that those ones only have around 145hp witch is not very much for the weight of those, they are heavy. And with the Prelude, my ex girlfriend has one, and when my buddy raced me in hers (he used to have one) he beat me by about a car length. Keep in mind that hers was completely stock and I had intake, exhaust, clutch. She also has a 5spd so I don't know if the prelude that your talking about is an auto. If it is if will be very close.

I wasn't talking specific, just very curious because i read a review someone made on a 95 celica gt. Saying that we have a lot less power than a probe gt and vtec prelude. what a lot of people just don't understand is we have 4:11 FINAL GEARS. I have a friend with a 5 spd. After i get my headers and cold air done (which will be on sale, check out my "headers anybody?" post) i'll get a drag on with him, and i'll get back to ya all (probably end of summer. hahaha). Thanks Toy.
He has a 5 spd prelude i meant. This post has been edited by spunky393: Apr 29, 2004 - 8:10 PM -------------------- The most important lesson I learned from Karate-Dō Kyōshan – “You can not be what you do not believe you are” |

92 and older gts have a turbo, and ALOT more torque than we do. and the 93 and up gts have a 164 horse v6 thats pulls almost all the way to its 7k redline. my dads got a 97 and it will kick my ass.

Final drive doesn't really matter (it matters if you're comparing relative top speeds... but the Ludes are drag limited, and the Celicas are speed limited... I don't know about the probes). What matters is how the engine delivers its power... and no... you won't beat any prelude short of an old school 1st gen and 2nd Gen (well modded 3rd gens will walk you easy)... and nothing beyond that aside from MAYBE base model F23 powered Ludes. An H22/H23 lude will destroy you... easy... They have more power and torque... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

the heck the final drive doesn't matter.
our final drive is for quickness, it uses the small power the engine puts out to every extent it can. And if you're talking about experience from that ST, little bit of a difference, correct? -------------------- The most important lesson I learned from Karate-Dō Kyōshan – “You can not be what you do not believe you are” |

against a GT.... seeing how i've heard a 20V st can beat a GT... and my car can keep up with coomers.... and i have a problem against my roommates 94 mx6 (same as the probe gt)... then i'd say the probe will beat you.... unfortunately

Evey week someone comes up with a new car to be battled with the Celica....................why? These cars are NOT built to perform with out serious cash/mods. Quit trying to fool yourselfs, your car can and WILL be owned by a good percentage of other cars out there including trucks and SUV's.
Accept It. |
