Aight people ive been thinkin bout getting the 3sgte jdm ST185 motor for my car but it seems to me that there is tones of custom work that needs to be done in order to mount it and make it work. What i really need to know is do u need parts extra (like new exhaust or an intercooler) just to run the danm thing.?? confused.gif

And also ive seen the Burian Turbo but it is 2,500 bucks and im wondering if thats the cheapest bang for my buck deals. Also is the Burian Turbo going to require extencive custom work by myself??

you dont NEED to run things like an intercooler or a new exhaust for the 3sgte to run. these things are all about making the cars run more efficiently. Now, if you run without an intercooler you will run into major heating problems, so i would not suggest running without an intercooler. if you buy a clip (which everyone will suggest) it should come with all the accessories you need, then you can just upgrade from there.

try using the search function to find out more, this topic has been discussed over and over and over again.

No, the burien kit will not require extensive mods to install. It shoudl come with everything you need and the instructions are actually very detailed and easy to follow. But of course there are downsides to this kit. It does come with everything you need, but it lacks some major things to keep boosting a 5s reliably such as timing control, some sort of piggy back fuel control, and cooling. You can actually put together your own kit for about $1000 cheaper. Boosting the 5s can be a tricky business, but can be great if done correctly.

Also, it depends on how much power you are looking for. A 5sfte is only good for up to 200 hp. Anything more than that you should go for the 3sgte which is 225-250 out of the box, with the potential for much much more.

One more thing, if you are looking at getting a jdm engine, take a look at your state emission laws to make sure that you wont run into any trouble with the state after you do the swap.

true, i suppose thats more my opinion. I think anything more than 200 hp on a 5sfe you would need to do an extensive build up to the internals to run reliably. 200+ is defn possible, but if you are going to go to that much trouble, you might as well get a 3sgte which has more potential.

Carson read up some of the posts in this forum, there are loads on 3s swaps. The sticky's are a good place to start. Even with the burien kit you would need to get some work done to mate your downpipe to the exhaust/turbo manifold I think. That would be the quick and easy DIY answer, there is always more work to go into an engine swap.

Almost all members here who've swapped (like super and coomer for eg.) have had stupid little problems along the way they didn't plan for. If you have patience and you want to build up your car, swapping is definately the way to go.

Edit - I just noticed he has got 2 identical threads going, maybe they should be merged?
