I have a 1994 Celica ST coup hardtop that I am converting to a quarter mile monster. Now I need to find the right engine so I can get it done ASAP. I'm planning to replace the mechanics with high preformance racing products. With so many options I need to see other suggestions. The new 2.4 in the Camry and the Scion tC looks promising but I haven't heard of any fixed up 2.4's. Any help would be much appreceated.

I've done some research and the 3S-GTE looks the highest rated. But what about the 2.4? It seems too new to see fully fixed up 2.4's but if any1 has seen specs, what they can handle or how the engine mounts let me know. Oh, by the way I got $$$ for it and a buddy who can get me discounted toyota labor.

most likely the 3sgte, its made for our cars, well youd have to modify your mounts and such. but if u get up there in hp ur going to have traction problems, so you would need awd conversion and i think only one person has done it. the car would need alot of work. your easily looking at 25k if not more.

some of the 3sgtes are 260hp stock, that 2.4 engine is 160 i think . do the math, also the 3sgte is lighter ( i think), celicas are home to the 3sgte ne ways , lol smile.gif

The HKS Celica

The Celica which most likely owns has the title of worlds fastest Celica is the HKS drag Celica. Built by legendary Japanese drag builder HKS...the HKS Celica was built off of the AT200 (U.S. ST) chassis. The Celica was the first FWD car under the 10-second barrier. Note that this was all done WITHOUT using a tubular chassis. Details are of course still kept confidential, however what is known is that the Celica has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine perhaps an over bored 3S-GTE, or based off of a Toyota Racing Engine used in the Pikes Peak Celica...

Basically, I want new extra-high preformance racing mechanics, yet comfortable. Forget the under 10 secs, I don't want to turn my car into a shell.

Hehehe... it's kinda funny hearing the words "1/4 mile monster"..."celica ST"..."10 seconds"..."comfortable" and "ASAP" all reffering to the same thing. It's kind of an oxymoron, depending on how you string those phrases together...

Anyway... No... the 2AZFE (camry 2.4 liter) will not see the 10 second barrier without serious serious mods and BOOST... lots and lots of BOOST. I mean... 40+ psi and 500+ whp. That's not for the ametuer builder... The 4AGZE will not see that, a 4AGTE *might* see that, but will starve for torque, and the 3SGTE can see that, but has no real advantage over the 2AZFE aside from wearing a GE head and being easier to swap into a T20 chassi (6th gen celica). Why do I say the 3SGTE has no real advantage over the 2AZFE? (I know you 3SGTE worshippers are wondering)... well, basically because even the 3SGTE will require as significant of modifications as the 2AZFE to be able to make and sustain 500+ whp. The 500+ whp figure is only an estimate of what it'll take to power a FF car to the 10 second barrier... why so much? Because the faster you go, the power required to accelerate that fast grows exponentially. It might actually need more than 500 whp to break 10's... assuming it's a unibody...

As for my personal favorite... the legendary Toyota HEMI... the 3TC. Just imagine, the 3T block bored and stroked to 2.2 liters (from a 1.6) fully built top and bottom, sucking down 40 pounds of boost with a 100 shot of nitrious over it... with awesome chassi candidates as the AE86 Corolla (at around 2100 pounds), KP61 Starlet (at ~1800 pounds), and the Mango Corollas (72-83) (all around or under 2200 pounds). These are all easy builds, cheap, and FR... front engine REAR WHEEL DRIVE. Great for drag.

Top close... I think you shouldn't take Fast and Furious too seriously... cause it just ain't gonna happen ASAP... or cheap for that matter. As for comfort... drag cars are not made to be comfortable. If you're building a comfortable drag car... you're doing it all WRONG. And finally, a FWD car shouldn't be your frist attempt at a true "1/4 monster". FWD cars just don't have good enough traction, and when you start getting really fast (low 14's high 13's) traction sucks! Anyways... better to build a nice well-rounded car that is fun... than be fooled into thinking you (alone) can build a 10 second FWD drag car... and that's with the most humble honesty...

Amen Brother. Read it and believe it. Not only is he right, he turned a 500% profit on a strut tower bar!

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Kwanza pretty much summed it up.

Hell 10sec's and celica in the same sentence was bad enough.

Though in an AE86 I'd much rather see the mazda 20b 3 rotor. I have a video of one somewhere.......simply discusting.

Quarter-mile monster? ST? FWD? None of that goes together at all. You bought the complete wrong car. Your mistakes are as follows:
1) Getting a Celica to run a 13 takes a lot of cash.
2) An ST is harder to drop a 3SGTE into because of the motor mounts, but, it can of course be done.
3) FWD is not exactly a drag platform. You need rear wheel drive for this. I just breezed over Kwanzas post so I'm sure that I'm repeating what he said.

I'm going to bed.

Thanks for the info, i know FWD is the worst canidate considering the WHP/traction issue for draging but someone has to show up all those FWD hondas. biggrin.gif I just want a good amount of the line "fun" not for the reason of racing in the 1/4 mile. I just want the engine that has the best 1/4 mile potential and not too hard of a swap.

nope... the car is available in the US... but it's small and butt ugly (IMO)... ;]

I forget the years... but I think the last RWD model was 1982... then it discontinued in the US...
