ok this began when my friend bought a AEM cai for his eclipse and god I love that sucking sound, so I am now building my own, using 2 1/4" diameter piping and mandrel bent corners. I am trying to figure what would be better if I ran the pipe down and move my cruise control box to where my stock filter is and run it down to the hole(s) behind my radiator? or go into my wheel fender where my filter is at right now? Of course I would use a sponge kit to keep the water out. If anyone has attempted this or completed this I would really love your input. I know pxr94 had it done but took it off for his turbo set up. thanks, -Brandon -------------------- |

95celgt off this site makes CAI intakes. i have his in mine. you could ask him for advice. heres pictures of what it looks like
http://www.6gc.net/index.php?action=members&itu=1837 As you can see it goes down into the left front fender for a nice blast of cold air. Its 3' piping which is quite a bit bigger then 2.25. what are the disadvatages and advatages of bigger piping vs smaller pipping? i would think with smaller piping the air vilocity might be much greater. but with bigger piping you might let more cold air in, but then again the trottle body where the pipe connects is probably about 2.25'. how will it sound different? Mine sounds very nice. It has a very deep deeep growl when you press on the gas. Its very aggressive. I performs better too. i noticed better pick up. The car seem to just want to pickup and go more so then before. I noticed a little bit better acceleration at higher rpms also. This post has been edited by ssnake86: Sep 9, 2004 - 10:09 AM |

If I were you, I'd try to move the cruise control(or battery) and run the piping through all of the room that you'll free up. I'd run the piping into the inner driver's side fender. This way you don't have to relocated your fuse box and stuff.

yea as i told coomer before the fuse box was a pain. i mounted mine just a little bit higher up, put my piping right under it, and drilled a bolt into the metal area behind the fuse box. i also had to cut the piping in another spot. so i could put it at the right angle to get it down the hole. so its cut in three place.

If you have the money just get a CAI from doleck racing and save the hassle of having to remove and cut stuff. It is designed to fit perfectly and goes down to the fender.

that CAI must be made out of some really small diameter piping becuase that hole is not big at all... |

Ok so I decided I am gonna run it straight down and take out my cruise control box and run it down (curves are needed) behind my fans straigh to the ground w/ a filter and sponge kit.
Can anyone tell me what this little piece of plastic that sticks up by the top left corner of my air box is? i am gonna need to remove that. heres a pic: -Brandon -------------------- |

you could solve alot of your space and design problems by just runing a cold air box... same idea.. no worry about suckin up water.. and it looks cooler than a CIA or a short ram.
basically remove your stock air box and piping.. the only part you will want to keep in the whole system is the section that goes threw the fender support stuff.. um.. under the relay/fuse box. you will need to make a air scoop inside the fender infront of the tire and behind the bumper. think this would work best on the 96+ stock front or the invader kit as they have nice openings there to allow plenty of fresh air in. once you have made your scoop.. which you can get from hardware stores and ect.. (believe Weapon R makes one but its reallly over priced) Or you can use your lower stock airbox... just cut off the front section of it, your gonna need to make your box.. basically it is a surround that encloses the fliter element. Doggy posted a picture of something close.. I will try and link a pic for you guys. you will need to cut a hole to allow your filter to come into the box.. alot of people cover the top of the box with plexi to keep a eye on things but you can leave the top open also. the air from the scoop has to come into the box or your setup is kinda pointless. you might have to custom some piping to make it work... also don't go too much bigger than stock or you will just create lag in your intake 2.5 piping is MORE than enuf. I would suggest heat temp tape on the inside of the box.. this will help ALOT with intake temp and it looks kinda cool here is a good site to follow.. his final design isnt the prettiest ive seen but its not bad at all link here is a quick drawing to help the mental imaging impaired -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |
