Hey guys, i'm looking for any insight or help that anyone has. My clutch has practically died, to where only 1st, 3rd and 5th only work, occasionally. Took it to the shop and they said that one of the 2 shifet cables is blown, but that they are attached so i would have to order both in. No 3rd party manufactures make it, according to the mechanic, so they'll have to ship it in from Japan or Cali(i'm in Florida), and cost $340 parts and $60 labor and 5 days shipping. I can't find anyplace on the internet that sells the cables, so does anyone have any idea of who i can get some from, if this price is anywhere near right, if this is even a real problem, etc? Thanks for your help!

Definately dont buy it from Japan, thats ludicrous. Find someone who did a swap to get some GT shifter cables (if thats really the problem) and they'll sell them for a helluva lot cheaper than that! If I could sell mine right now I'd sell them for most likely 50 if that so definately take a look around.
Now you should ask what exactly is blown, because a cable is a cable, and those cables dont have much force on them so "blowing one" doesnt make much sense unless its the rubber grommet on the ends or the ends are frayed and coming apart, thats the only thing I can think of. If its the grommets, you can order just the grommets I think I saw some on an MR2 site but they should be the same, and they will be cheaper and easier to repair (you can do it yourself). -------------------- |

This is a picture of the brass bushings (grommets I called them before) that are from TwosRUs, they are for the ST185 but they may fit the GT cables, if not take a look around Twos R Us website for other kinds, perhaps for the N/A MR2's. They are $26 and if thats the problem, you can replace just those instead of buying new cables. But you should really find out what specifically is wrong with the cable. -------------------- |

Thanks so much! I'll check into it and hopefully it won't cost an arm and a leg.
