alright. the other day i bought four 6.5 inch Polk Audio db650's to replace my blown stockers. me and a friend were removing the rear panels yesterday when we realized that the factory is indeed a 6.5in, but the metal piece around the factory speaker and the bracket in the door is like a rounded square. how would i go about installing round speakers in their place? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

i have a 97 ST hatch and this is what i had to do. i had to get out my grinding rotary tool to grind away the plastic to make the speaker fit the bracket. then i had to use the metal square things that come with the speakers to hold them in. i screwed them on the screws then bended them around. was kind of a bitch to do but worked and they havent fallen out yet. maybe you can think of something better to mount them since the holes dont match up.

i had to make custom mounting brackets to make them fit. the stockers were oversized 6's that were the size of 8's. just cut a piece of wood out to adapt it or buy a pair off ebay. its not too hard.

i bought these spacers for my fronts to fit 6.5"s,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...ssPageName=WDVW and they work fine, would these work to fit 6.5"s in the back too? or is it a completely different thing? |

I had to grind too... I took a dremmel tool and ground off all the edges then I took a drill and drilled a couple new holes. Works perfectly.

ShadowFX Posted Today, 08:36 AM i bought these spacers for my fronts to fit 6.5"s, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...ssPageName=WDVW and they work fine, would these work to fit 6.5"s in the back too? or is it a completely different thing? i dont think they would fit in the back cus its like a rounded square opening and its too small for the speaker, so u would have to girnd something. gonna start the project today. ill keep u posted and let u know what went down. thanks for the replies. |

I think mine went straight into the rear, but judging from the materials if you cut a little and then redrilled I think you should be ok.
