hi~ i'm a newbie here... and i'm having a ST model... im apologized 1st if my c2PiGz Q annoying anyone here...

i would like to swap my stock engine with 3S, but i'm kind of confuse regarding the 3S-GE vvt-i thing... i got the bottom info from a japan website:

"DUAL VVT-i which also the control of the exhaust valve is done tempering 4 cylinder sport twin cams which were lifted, in addition to the BEAMS (Breakthrough Engine with A Mechanism System) 3S-GE DUAL VVT-i former inhalation valve, (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) it loads. According to engine rpm and accelerator opening, because the computer optimizes the opening and closing timing of the inhalation and exhalation of air valve continually, inhalation and exhalation of air efficiency improves furthermore over entire area, raises output torque. "

it is the red top 3S-GE vvt-i a DUAL vvt-i?

furthermore i would like to convert my ST to GT4... is GT4 a FULL TIME 4WD or manually selectable or auto engage during wheels slide?

The red top BEAMS 3S-GE has VVT-i only on the intake cam I believe.

As far as the GT-Four conversion, it's never been done, and would require a ton of work...if you can buy a GT-Four over there you're probably a lot better off just doing that. It's full time all wheel drive by the way.

The ST205 is full time 4wd, with a Torsen rear diff.

Lots and lots of luck trying to convert it.

My conversion technique involved selling the ST182 and buying a ST205.

Fairly easy.

You could always find a nice ST185 and do a full body conversion to a 6th Gen... Not that I know what I'm talking about... but how feasible is it to do just that? I'm sure this has probably been brought up before. Just custom fit the ST205 hood and bumper along with headlights and then do some custom work on the back end to make it look more 6th gen-ish. You could probably never get it perfect but I'm sure you could fool a lot of people. It would be cool to see if nothing else.

i haf a ST wif A series of engine (c2piG toy put a FE in it!)... i'm not goin 2 do a buy n sell thing kind of stuff coz involved hell lot of $$$ & ¢¢¢...

my intention is 2 get away of the c2piG FE engine 1st & replace it with 3S-GE... preferrable wif vvt-i...

it is really clear tat red top is intake vvt-i n black is dual... if i wanna swap my c2Pig engine with 3S-GE beam dual vvt-i, will the gear box coupling fit?! how about the engine mounting coz it is a RWD engine??? otherz standard 3S engine (regardless it is a FE or GE or GTE...) partz like intake manifold, timing belt bearing n etc fit in? what other necessary need 2 b taking care of especially the engine is from RWD transplant over 2 a FWD? will my original gearbox able 2 stand the extra torque / power?!

4 the conversion of ST -> GT4... haf 2 wait till the tranny done 1st...

You should be more clear... regardless of how "cool" you may think you sound. Good grammar reflects a person's intelligence... and so far... you're a dumba$$... help us out by getting your message clear across... so we won't have to decipher it.

To answer your questions... The redtop has VVTi only on the intake cam. The BEAMS engines however are very rare and very expensive... and you'll most likely pay more for just the BEAMS longblock and manifolds, as you'll pay for an entire 3SGTE front clip. That said... to make the blacktop BEAMS (rwd one) work in a FWD set-up, you'll have to re-route the water lines and alter the intake plenum so the throttle body faces the correct direction. The redtop intake manifold may swap over... but it may not... so you'd have to figure that on your own. These engines are just too rare... so people really don't get to tear them apart and mix-match parts. Trannies should all bolt up the same so long as you use the proper clutch (input shafts on RWD trannies are typically different with those engines). That's the just the mechanical stuff... which is really easy. I have a feeling you have no idea about anything elctrical... which is the hardest part of doing one of these swaps. 90% of the pains-takingly long work is wiring. Whenever people ask about "fitment"... it's obvious they're already in over their heads... cause if they can't figure out the mechanical stuff and they think it's gonna be a problem... then wiring is gonna kill.

thanks kwanz... sorry 4 the bad english as well...

i'm not doing the swap but the workshop. they have done an excellent job of swapping my merc 8 valves engine to a multi-valves and manual gearbox to auto. i think it should be ok on the wiring.

i have asked about the toyota altezza front clip without gearbox, it costs around US$2k. thus i would like to know any other parts that i need to get before doing the swap. for the intake manifold, shall i turn it 180° or get it from the FWD 3S engine?

thanks for the help. hope you guys can understand my bad english.

You can get an altezza front clip for 2k!? that's unbelieveable... that's cheaper than a lot of 3SGTE front clips... 8-O

No... you cannot simply turn the intake manifold around. It'll have to be cut/welded or you're gonna have to research and see if the redtop intake manifold bolts up. The non-VVTi intake manifolds will most likely not work.

Seriously though... unless you can get diagrams for the BEAMS engines... wiring will be a nightmare. Later model ECUs need a lot of signals before they'll fire up the motor... and as far as I know... not many people have wiring information on the BEAMS engines... hell, there isn't even a lot of documentation on the 3rd gen 3SGEs... let alone the BEAMS.

For the 3rd gen 3S-GE is pretty easy. First 3 ECU plugs you don't mess with, only the last one. And to figure out what wire does what, open up the ECU and the pinouts are there. On the BEAMS, the pinouts aren't on the ECU. For BEAMS wiring help, I suggest you talk to first4age at MR2OC.com.
