Im wanting to make my own shortram intake. I would get all the parts from home depot and build it, but I need a list of items to buy. Would anyone with experience tell me when I need to get?

Stock design is a CAI, albeit a cramped one. Going from the stock CAI to an SRI means you're exchanging small amounts of cold air for large amounts of warm air, with no increase in the amount of oxygen actually getting into the engine. The only increase you actually achieve with an SRI is more noise.
To create an SRI out of Home Depot materials, get a 2" diametre 45-degree street elbow (one end male, the other female). Get 6-10 inches of 2" pipe. Get a cone filter. Glue the elbow and the straight pipe together, using the female end of the elbow. Stick the filter on the end of the pipe. Stick the male end of the elbow into the stock rubber sleeve on the intake body. Congratulations, you have increased your car's decible output. |

QUOTE(ArizonaRed @ Jun 24, 2005 - 9:28 PM) are you saying stock intake is CAI? and it is better than short ram? Well stock intake intakes colder air then sri does (if u look at the stock airbox of a gt ull notice that the box intakes air from the fender which is totally set aside from the engine bay and open to cold air.). However sri is way less restrictive. I dont know which ones is better to have. A restrictive system sucking in cold air OR a non restrictive system sucking in lots of hot air. Keep this in mind. HIGH FLOW FILTERS. from what i under stand highflow box filters show about the same dyno results as a sri does. Combine this with the fact that a celica gt (i assume st as well) intake sucks in cold air. I dont c a reason why a person would by a sri when they could just get a hi flow filter and still be suckin in colder air. less work and should pass somg visual check (if in CA all intakes other then AEM, which are carb certified, will not pass visiual inspection). There really isnt much other cost other then the optional use of the aem bypass which is like 45 bucks. As for cutting im sure if u dont have a saw u can just get some neighbor or shop guy to do it same goes for drilling the holes. This post has been edited by urbandork: Jun 26, 2005 - 2:46 AM |
