Hello everyone,
First let me explain my situation. My car has been a bunch of trouble since day 1 when I bought it, yet I still love it so much. I just spent 1000 dollars fixing the AC and I was about to sell it until I saw a fixed up 6gc the other day and it made me think about doing a swap..

So my question is, do you think I should spend 6500 on a 3rd Gen 3sgte swap (and send the car to XAT Racing in Florida) or should I sell my car and spend the money on a 7th Gen gt-s 6 speed?

There are positives and negatives about each choice but I'm just looking for some feedback before I make the wrong decision. Can someone help me out with my decision?? The 6th Gen is sexier, but the 7th gen has more aftermarket availability.

Any opinions on what I should do?

By the way, I've already contacted XAT and I can get the swap done in Aug. if I decide to do so.

-Rob

If you do the swap, there will be just as much aftermarket for the 6gc. There's a lot of parts for the 3sgte. And suspension products are pretty easy to find for our cars. Do whatever you think though.

Depends on what you want. A 3SGTE swap will give you MUCH more power and potential, plus I personally love the look of the 6th gen over the 7th gen. But that's me.

Also I would suggest not insisting on a 3rd gen 3SGTE since when you upgrade it you're going to replace all that stuff anyway, save the money and get a 2nd gen. And I could do it for you as well if you're interested.

On the other hand, a 7th gen will be newer... and that's about all the good I have to say about that.

Who has had experience with XAT racing? If I go thru with the swap, I have to send half of the money for them to order a clip and the parts and I dont want to risk that much money if they are not reliable.

i was going to buy a 240sx that XAT did the swap on, it was a great car, but i heard their pretty expensive, you could probably find someone cheaper to do the swap and do it just as good.

i heard that they do a good job, but they are about 10 hrs away from me. I dont really mind driving that far if they do a great job.

Does anyone know a good shop around North Carolina that can do a 3rd gen 3sgte swap for less than 6500 and still include everything that XAT has?

hey dr tweak imin the same boatas rob!asa matter of fact, we live near each other, and havemet. rob, contactme i have a placethatwill do the swap for about 4600- the gt4 clip is 2500. if you have a manual and a gt it should be cheaper. i have the st and itsan auto. so i have to pay for a manual conversion i will email u for your phone number. the place is on sharon amity off of harris blvd. its called psi motorsports.thoseguys are really cool and laidback, its ahang out spot too so u can drop in anytime. they live there lol. but dr tweak are you saying that the 2nd gen isstronger and better? i always thought that the 3rd gen was 250hp. maybe wrong. i talked to lagos and he was giving me some words of wisdom. like doing it would turn you into a mechanic and you willhave alot of problems, but im thinking its worth it, even though it will be my daily driver,im not looking to be super fast, just good enough to beat all of those damn hondas that flood charlotte ALL THE TIME. im sure rob feels my pain dontcha rob?

You want power but have no money. That's a problem.

Cheap. Reliable. Fast. Pick two.

I personally if I didnt already have a clip and stuff would go with XAT. I've talked to them on the phone before and they know their stuff. I would go with the 2nd gen swap though not the 3rd for $4800.

if i have the money for the 3rd gen, why not go for it? I'd rather have 250 hp than the 2nd gen motor which i think has around 200 right?

The jdm 2nd has 220hp, but it will be easier to get replacement parts for it, as it is very similar to the mr2 turbo. id say go with the second.

But for the car, Just way the pros and cons if you can have a better car that will make you more happy for the same money dont do it, but for the money dif if this will make you love your car do it.

For the same reasons Dr. tweak said.

Parts availability was my number 1 reason. The 2nd gen 3s is in the mr2t and it is also in the 5th gen all trac. So parts will be much easier to get.
