I have spent some time on a mr2 forum and found that some of them are switching out their 5sfe for a 1mzfe. For those who don't know this is the v6 engine that has been in the camry. From what I've read, in an mr2 this swap can be done as cheaply or cheaper than a 3sgte. Weight difference is about the same between a 3sgte and 1mzfe, so bad balance isn't too much on an issue. This engine will have about 200 HP. And TRD makes a supercharger for it. It looks to me to be a pretty attractive idea for those who like the N/A powerband better than the turbo and don't like the lag. Mabey there is something I missed. Is there something thats makes this swap impossible for celicas?

No. It would be a nice swap - particularly with the supercharger.

It should be added to the feasable swaps list then. I would like to see it done by somebody.

There is some info on it. I suggest that anybody wanting to research it try mr2oc.com. It has been done on a car with a drivetrain very similar to the celica GT, and just because we don't know of anybody who has done it in a celica, dosen't mean that it shouldn't be listed where people can see that it is an option open to exploration.

Perfectly feasable... it's been done already in a 5th gen (turned 5th gen ST coupe into a mid 14 second car with good driving)... There are things to be dealt with... like the steering rack, moutning, wiring, hood clearence, etc. The guy that did it floats around celicatech.com

If anyone does do it... post info on it... cuz i'm figuring that if my engine dies i want to swap instead of getting another car... and just doing an engine with 200 hp would be nice!

Im sure this is possible. The wiring is pretty much the same on the camry.
Now, there is really no Manual tranny for the engine. So if you were to outfit this with a 3s tranny. You would end up with an EMS system. This is roughly the same price as a 3S when you are done, but I would like see this on a 6G celica. |

They make the E153 (MR2T manual tranny) for a FWD application in the V6 Camry's and Solaras. Please don't guess when posting information as fact. If you don't know, you should preface your comments with "I think" or something like that. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

It's been done, as Kwanza said -- go to Celicatech.com, look up Adrian Averginos.

thats the engine in the camry, solara, avalon, and sienna, my mom drives a sienna, my sister drive a avalon, they have alot of torque, in a 2700lb car i'd be quick, also isn't it an all aluminum block? to bad the supercharger is like $4000... i read some artical on a guy with a v6 camry 5 speed, and he had a custom turbo set up with a t66 turbo, if i come across the page i'll put a link......
to bad the e153 tranny's are becoming hard to find, never came in the sienna, or avalon, maybe 1/3 of solara's, and 1/4 of camry's... |

I tThink tthe only real problem your going to run into is, finding a low milage engine. Were as most import engines have under 50k.. a american one on average would have over 120k or so. Unless you came across a good deal on a wrecked one. Its prolly going to run the same cost, and have less power, and worse gas milage, but all n/a and us legal.

im sure you could find a cheap one, and just rebuild it for much less than importing a 3sgte
to make the search larger, im pretty sure the es250, and es300's came with the same engine This post has been edited by o8poa8o: Sep 3, 2005 - 10:31 PM |
