So I opened up a savings account today to start saving for my move to So-Cal next summer.

I was wondering if some of the so-cal people can help me out! I need some names of some apartments/cities that are relatively cheap but in a good area and where the Celica will be safe. Id like a one bedroom but i will take a studio if i need to. I wanna be less than an hour from the beach.

If you guys could give me names of Apartments that would be awesome!

Id like to live somewhere between San Diego and LA!

Thanks everyone! :-)

Hmm, between SD and LA is big, where exactly are you looking for? I mean, you want close to City or don't care or..... Around where I live (La Jolla, San Diego) single bedroom apartment that's close to beach (10 min drive, walking distance is much more) is around $1050~$1200 depending on the time of sign up (off season is cheaper, Aug, Sep is more expensive cause that's when students start to move in). But if you move further up say north county it's cheaper.

Acually Nat, we prefer not having people in our state that spit on other people. It's just discourteous.

550 is a bit cheap for Irvine. I would be suspicious. It could be under a freeway, full of radon, haunted... You never know...

Where you at Aka? UCSD?

500 for a studio is a bit too cheap in irvine... you should definitely take a look to make sure.

Wow Nat...congradulations smile.gif

Irvine - Well it is the safest city in Cali so the celica should be fine

but i dont know about the 500 bucks. I work here in irvine, let me know the addy and ill let you know what part of irvine it might be in. Unfortunately Irvine does have its ghetto side too.

It's going to be expensive no matter where you are. If you want to spend less money, you are looking at moving inland. The farther you are from the ocean the less you will pay.

Also, Ventura County is nice too and you might find so good deals.

My co-worker who moved here from Wisconson a few months ago lives in HB for 1250/month with his roomate. It has 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen and most importantly 2 car ports. Doesn't look that bad...some might say it looks like a beat up motel but nothing a little IKEA wont fix. He's just cheap.

Anyways... moving out here like many will tell you is going to be very expensive, especially if you want to live in a "safe" area.

Finding a roomate would probably be the best thing to do.

Im sure ill make it. I dont plan on staying longer than a year anyways cuz my mom is pretty sick.

Parents definetly will be helping out im sure so i should do fine.

and from people i talk to in torrance and what not..it sounds like the same cost of living as it is here in Washington

735 for a one bedroom here in WA and thats what it seems to run around the areas im looking at.

i go to school in the inland empire (riverside) and let me say...well you get what you pay for. It's a big area without the frills or luxuries of a big city, like one giant suburb. A hot suburb. The beauty of it is the home market is still low (although everyone and their moms are moving out to the IE cause its cheaper, get in before the bubble bursts) and its pretty close to a lot of nice areas (<1 hr to beach, 1+ hr to LA, 1.5 hr San Diego, <1 hr Palm Springs, 4+ hr Las Vegas). Theyre still building a lot of new tract/community homes in the area. Good luck.

Oh and if you plan on moving out here anytime soon, theyre doing this massive freeway renovation, and traffic is a mother.

The valley (northern LA county, very hot) is another place...its where everyone moved to last decade to escape the city(the old Inland Empire) so I dont know if its a feasible option although it is nice. I have friends who live there and they live in nice areas.

The south bay (where i live, carson) is nice too, close to beaches etc. My house is about 15 miles from the beach, close to a freeway/industrial areas/oil refineries and its worth about half a mil now. Its a 4 bedroom 2 bath 2 story corner house.

So yeah, if youre really movin out here, good luck, and can i get a ride in your car? biggrin.gif

Torrance is a very nice area, although the westside (beach->inland) is a lot nicer than the eastside (old town/downtown). From what I know though there doesn't seem to be a lot of apartments around, maybe a few upscale condos here and there. The only apartments i ever see in torrance are on busy streets and look kinda ghetto. If you find an apartment at that price in a nice neighborhood over here, go for it. Do you know what your total price range will look like?
