I think the next step for my car would be to get lowering springs. I want them to lower the car and improve handeling. I really think the lowering springs would help the look and all, but the performance is what I'm after. And, springs are really close to being in my price range. The problem is, my girlfriend thinks that all guys who lower their cars are douches. I know this isn't true, but how to I convence her that it isn't?

Do it, and show her how much better it looks and how much better it handles.. and If she still thinks its for douches.. what ever... Its your car, your money.. do what you want.

Get a pict side by side of a lowered truck, which is useless, pointless and stupid. and give her a pict of a celica lowered slightly.
The main thing is, you need to AGREE WITH HER. Say: Yeah, tons of douchebags lower their cars because it "looks cool" even tho i think it looks like ****, BUT, your boyfriend, being the smart guy that I am, nows how to lower my car and get good handling, etc out of it, WITHOUT compromising it's look and looking like a douchebag |

if you drop it and the shocks die, you won't be liking it
more than 1" drop and the shocks weren't meant to work in that range, and they will quickly die. and driving a car with blown shocks is NOT a better ride Dr. |

Do what you want, it's your car and your money. However, let your gf know that you gave her opinions serious thought and will remove them if she is right.... ha ha
Personally, I'd save the money. All these little projects are nice in the short term, but in the long term the money could be spent more wisely. I wish I would have invested half as much as I did into my celica. I'd have at least another 3-5 months paid off on my RSX-S, and my payments are %553 a month. But hey... it is your money, and if it makes you happy do it. You only live once |

She's one of those people that say, "as long as it moves." I really hate that too. She drives a 93 Lumina, which is now a total piece of crap. Her dad has had the responsibility of taking care of it, and he's also responsable for her opinions on it. I tell her, look at your car which is only a year older than mine, and look at the difference in them. My car is like a brand new car, and her's isn't worth $200. Her dad was telling me how much of a waste it was to spend money on my car, then I apealed to his thrifty side. I said, "I can take this Celica and put something like $10k into it, and make it a lot faster and a lot nicer than those guys out there spending $40k on new sports cars." He seemed to be happy with this. I just wish I could make my girlfriend understand modifying my car.
To the comment about saving my money. It's impossable. I don't mean this as in I spend everything. I mean it as in I get only so much money. My parent's pay my way through school right now and only give me so much money. Once I spend what I have, they give me more. If I save everything, they just don't give me any money. I've went through this for 2 years already. Now my 3rd year in college, I've decided to actaully buy something for myself. It wasn't really my desision though, my parents and grandparents have told me I need to buy something for myself and stop trying to save everything. They're pretty nice most of the time. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

Some people just don't get it. I fight with my parents about this all the time. Apparently I'm obsessed with my car, and they see no point in $900 headlights. Trying to explain the amazing hotness of projectors to my dad who owns a 87 ford ranger that is falling apart. Even if you try to explain it to her she prob wont understand. It's your decision i think you should go for it. Makes a big difference.
