Ok heres the deal, the topic has come up again and the progress on our dragon emblems has come to a point where we need to make the decision. Basically we cannot find a company who will chrome plate plastics. there are 2 other routes we are thinking about, but are open to any other ideas. It goes like this:
A) we can get them chrome plated still... however, the emblems would need to be made of brass for the plating to adhere and not melt the piece. PRO: we still have them chrome plated CON: its going to bump the price to approximatly 45 bucks an emblem B) we can continue with using the hi-temp plastic as planned, but they will need to be spray painted, either by me, or by you, your choice. PRO: Keeps cost low and still good quality product CON: the emblem is spray painted, and like the painted taillights and engine pieces, MAY need to be repainted once and a while. C) keep waiting and come up with another idea. -------------------- Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... I say we do #C.
Most of us can get the piece painted with auto paint anyways. That way it won't fade or anything. Plus i wouldn't mind having to repaint if i had to. -------------------- Jared Harwell

I gotta say, it seems like it would be a bitch to paint it again. If you're gonna do something, do it right. I'd buy one for $40ish I suppose.

I don't mind the Hi-temp plastic option - though I'd prefer it painted (silver) for me, since my painting skills are, well, let's just say I still have trouble colouring inside the lines
The main reason I voted for plastic was I'm sure these things are going to look awesome, and I'm worried that they may go missing when I occassionally have to park in questionable areas. I'd rather not be replacing a $NZ90 emblem too often - plastic painted with, say a metallic silver paint, should still look good and be more affordable. Just my 2 cents, I'll be buying one regardless -------------------- |

Doesn't really matter to me which option ends up happening...I'll be wanting one regardless. Thanks!

I like something out of metal. I hate plastic, and $45 ain't that bad for something cool. I'm paying $50 to get the dragon embroidered on my center divider (not to mention the cost of reupholstering), so it seems reasonable to me. I'd pay it.

I vote for C. Why can't it be made out of aluminum or such and we could get it powder-coated or anodized or something like that. (I think those are the terms, feel free to correct me if you want, Homies.)

the aluminum will corrode, and annodizing or powdercoating will be just about the same price as chroming. -------------------- Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... Ten Speed, of God's Blood & Burial |

Celica is a spanish word. I forget what it means... and kanji and katakana seems so Hondaish. I saw one that once read like "Big Gun" or something to that effect.

it has dual meanings: in spanish it stands for "heavenly" or "cellestial", while in one of the eastern cultures it is a mythical person who rides a nortic dragon, hence, the dragon emblems!! -------------------- Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... all would be easy to make, my grandpa is coming down today, so ill talk to him about it more. i'll try to push making molds for doing both DIY plastic AND brass, so you will have a final choice.

alright heres the deal! we are able to do both plastic or chromed brass, it will be your choice. Plastics will be APPROX. 20-25 + shipping. Chromed brass will be APPROX. $45 + shipping. we are not taking orders yet, i have a black painted prototype and a silver painted prototype (not the same plastic we will be using) ill post the pics of them later. in approx. 2 weeks we will have examples of both the chrome plated and the painted versions. At that point i will begin taking orders.
In other news the original mold is set for the rear extensions, but the part hasnt been fitted yet, it should be about 2 weeks untill i get them fitted. -------------------- Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm...
