Hi guys n gals,
Im in Australia and have a st204. I had it dynoed before i started doing too many modifications so i could get it dynoed later to see how much i will gain in power later. With a K&N panel filter and cold air induction it made 76 kilowatts at the wheels (or 102hp). Since then ive had a custom exhaust fitted and am about to purchace a APEXi SAFC II, so im hoping for a decent gain. My mate's VTEC Prelude made 107kw (143hp) so ive got some work to do =\ Does anyone else have any 5s-fe dyno results?

Welcome mate smile.gif
I got mine dynoed ages ago.
Completely stock and got 67.5kw.
Thats a big difference with just the
cold air and panel filter.

I'd get it tuned up. Pressur2 dynoed at 105hp on his stock 5sfe. Keep building this thing. A 5sfe competing with a H22, that's not really all that fair. H22 will beat you mod for mod. If you had a 3sge, you could do a side by side build. Keep us all posted on how this thing does. Welcome to the site.

cheers guys.

That is a big difference! Although i have mine running on 98 RON fuel. If yours was on 91 that would make a bit more sence perhaps. The prelude has a full exhaust and extractors with CAI, but yea the 5S is always going to be the under-dog by far unfortunately. The 3S is probly better but the 5S has more torque and bigger capacity so thats gotta be good for potential ...i guess. hehe.

5S block, 3S head! now that would be the shiznitski

Ive always ran my on 98 RON (Premium Unleaded). Only the best for my baby biggrin.gif
I am disappointed by the number, but it was close to what I was expecting.
They came out 100kw stock at the motor, so the loss in the drivetrain to the
wheels is pretty close to those numbers

i always thought is was about 30% loss? i come up with 98.8kw on my reading.
i was also thinkin that with the factory figures they might have tested the engine on the engine dyno without a full exhaust system so in the car the engine would have less power. I could be wrong but i thought that mine should have a little more than standard? who knows.

It could also be the dyno your on.
Different dyno gives out different readings.
I'm pretty sure its 100 KW is with everything.
They wouldn't quote something less if they could quote more.
But I was told about 30% loss through the drivetrain.

^There's your info. That site is a little better on tec info. I like it for finding stuff out about the 5sfe. Those 5th gen guys really know what's going on. I see you have an idea because you know the 3s head flows better. However, as you'll see from that post, the 5sfe bottem end is limited due to stroke. I should know better, but I'm trying to build my 5sfe too. I talked to a guy who did everything I'm wanting to do, and he eventually swapped a 3sge in his Celica. He said if he were to go back, he would have put the 3sge in there in the first place. More parts, more potential, everything better. The only reason to go with the head swap seems to be turbo. I've heard the 5sfe block is only good for about 6-6.5k rpms. For a real high hp NA, you'll need more rpms than that. Sad, I know.

tru dat. I did some research into chips recently (not the potato variaty) and powerchip do a chip which adds 14kw at the engine which is a big jump, but its 1000 bucks! I came across the apexi safc controller which sounds like a better option and is only 600 retail, plus time on the dyno. i cant really find any figures on it for a 5S tho...

I don't know about any chips. Chips can't calculate mods. SAFC is a good bet, because you can tune it. There is an MR2 out there with Cams and Megasquirt that's running something like 146-149hp to the wheels. This is supposably the highest on record. It hooks up better in an MR2 than it will in a Celica, so that guy is probably moving pretty well.

Wow, good numbers. Motor must have been well mantained. I hope to get at least 120-125 with my mods. But I don't know. That might be a bit generous. Was your motor stock other than that? And how well did you mantain it?

no tim,
it was art (lagos') old motor, it had about 52k on it when i got it, and was in like new condition.
he took EXCELLENT care of the motor before i got it. smile.gif
and yes, other than the injen, the motor was totally stock.
