Clutch return spring. You may need a manual starter relay. I didn't use one, but I can start my car w/o the clutch in, I just leave it out of gear when its off as my safety switch.
As for the ECU, it's not needed at all, your OD light just blinks, yank the bulb. You need tranny mounts too. Auto and manual ones don't line up. TRD Quickshifter is shorter than stock throws, and it comes WITH A SHIFT ASSEMBLY. So you can save some bucks here and get a nice QS kit. There's various clips and pins to hold the shift cables in too. I am so stupid and didn't save my list. It was so comprehensive for a GT. -------------------- |

Also for OBDII cars ('96 and up) you are going to need the ECU hack or manual ECU. As far as I know, only the driver's side mount is needed, is this correct or no? -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

You can't make an estimate for a normal shop. Everyone is totally different. And there is no gaurantee about 700 for parts. The main thing is the transmission and flywheel, clutch. the tranny alone is gonna be the big chunk. Mine was 450 and had 10k miles on it.

Normally when I do a conversion to manual, I do it at the same time as an engine swap. When you consider the expense and difficulty of doing JUST an auto/manual conversion, and compare it to doing an engine swap AND auto/manual conversion, it's not worth it to most people to just do the conversion.
I would charge around $300 for labor on just a conversion, so it would be around $1000 total. On the other hand, I charge an additional $150 when doing it at the same time as an engine swap. Another thing to consider is that when you get and engine set it normally comes with a 5-speed tranny already, you can usually use the clutch that's already installed, you have the mount probably, so it cuts down on what you would have to spend when doing just a conversion. -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

I found a 5-speed transmission with all the parts needed to do the full swap. It is at a local salvage yard. The guy quoted me $700 for all the parts. This inculdes all the stuff listed at the start of this thread. I told him i was doing a swap, and he sounded kinda upset (like it was alot of work for him to take it out of the totaled car) but he said he has everything, its just gonna take some time to get it all out. Also when i said i was doing a swap the guys said, "so your gonna need the cylinder?" (im assuming hes refering to the clutch cylinder) So i figure this guy has some idea what hes talking about. Cuz i totally for got about that part. lol So yeah.
Should i bring him the list on this forum, so he knows exactly what i need? just to make sure i get what i need? BTW i have a 1995 GT, and im replacing the Auto tranny with a gt 5-speed, so it should be one of the "easier" tranny swaps (not saying any are easy, but just from the fact its the same motor as what it is suppose to be connected to.) -------------------- Kawi Love |

(or leave cut and don't start the car in gear) 2 - and as for a 96+ conversion...if you just swap from a 1997 A/T ECU to a 1996 M/T ECU (both 7A) will that be fine ? are the pinouts on both ECUs the same (same locations) ? I know there would be some extra wires not being used (for the auto tranny) but are we talking just plug and play here ? thanks This post has been edited by Batman722: Aug 3, 2006 - 12:47 AM -------------------- |

I know there would be some extra wires not being used (for the auto tranny) but are we talking just plug and play here ? thanks Hey, I got your PM. 1. They are located on the large plug on the tranny, usually they are black and black/white. You can either route them to the clutch start switch, or connect them and don't start the car in gear. The easiest way to route them to the pedal is to connect them together at the tranny plug side, and then on the interior find the wire (with a multimeter or check the diagrams) and then cut and splice two wires in there. That saves you from having to run wires through the firewall. 2. If you swap ECUs, on the '96, I can't recall at the moment but on the manual ECU the third plug is a 12-pin instead of a 22-pin, I'm pretty sure. It's easier to just connect three resistors in place of the shift solinoids, I even have the resistors that you would need in stock here if you want them. They're like $25 shipped. Otherwise, check on that plug size on the ecu and then we'll go from there. Also I think the rear mount bracket is different, make sure that you have the one for the manual tranny. -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |
