Common problem and an easy fix. But i would check it (disconnect it and reconnect it and see if the light shuts off) or just replace it anyway casue if it does start to act up weird things will start to happen like bogging down and rough or abnormal idling.

the sensor is located in the top 1/2 of the airbox.

look at the back side of my valve cover, follow straight up to the top of the picture and you'll see the 2 wires coming out of the air box. that SHOULD be where its located, if not i can look it up for you.

if you have and know how to use a multimeter you can check the sensor
IPB Image
you heat some water in the microwave and measure the waters temp with a thermometer and then dip the sensor tip in the water and meausre the ohms, the try with some cool water and check the ohms again. if its good then it should correspond with that chart.

or you can just blindly throw parts at the car, it may not be the sensor itself but a wiring fault between the sensor and ECU, but thats hard to check without a scantool.

ok after tossing away every part i could find out of the air system finally noticed, there is no air tem`perature sensor on my car...i found a plug next to it and it has nothing plugged....now i finally know why there was that hole on the air box...

a question: are these temperature sensors generic? i mean if it would be easy to find on any toyota spare shop or ill have to dig into it?

ty:P

btw here the weather is always cold...i saw in the service manual for the intake sensor error:
QUOTE
If ECM detects a problem in this circuit, it operates in the fail safe mode in which the intake air temperature is assumed to be 20º C

here the weather temp is amost never over 15º C, so is there a prob if i use the car normally while i try to find this sensor?

You can source the air temperature sensor from any 1994-1996 celica with 7afe or 1993-1997 corolla. We'll basically any of the 2 cars that have the 7afe engine (same as your celica). a good reason why you might have that hole there is that maybe the air temp sensor fell off due to the airbox not having the grommet to hold the sensor in place. So yeah, just source the sensor, plug it into the hole on the airbox, plug in the sensor harness, disconnect your battery for a while (To reset ECU), connect your battery, start up your car and see if the light is still there. Hopefully it won't turn back on.

Sorry man can't help you there. If I still had the 7afe in my car I would be able to tell you. This a website that you can go to for the sensor. It's not oem, but replacement parts. Go to your car, emissions, and go to air charge temp. sensor. I think this the part you are looking for. Good luck.
