Well, if the person doing the project has an extensive background on engineering/good taste so he/she doesn't compromise the structure/good looks of the car, I'm up for seeing one.

Sell your car, and buy a convertible. Chopping the roof off seems like a terrible idea and could possibly ruin your car. It will seriously throw off the structural rigidty, and could end in a botched custom work, with a ruined car that you won't be able to get rid of. Toyota made convertibles for people that wanted no tops, and hardtops for the opposite reason. Choose wisely before considering this.

toyota did it with the supra. and the 6g celica and mkiv supra have similar curves. so why not a targa top 6gc?

QUOTE(quicknstyle @ Dec 16, 2006 - 1:33 AM) what about a hard top shell for the verts, like ones for the s2000 or something... You know what would be even better? A Celica Vert with Hard Top Convertible. Like my dad's Lexus SC430. This post has been edited by ExSane: Dec 16, 2006 - 1:38 AM -------------------- |

I have the same stance with hardtop shells. The reason S2k's and Miatas have them is because they aren't offered as coupes, just verts. If you really want no top, get a vert. If you want a hardtop, get a coupe or hatch. IDK. Just seems like a waste of money to me

If I'm not mistaken the vert has a different rake to the windshield.

I think targa would look amazing on a celica... it would pretty much be a 135hp(GT) supra (baby supra).. The only problem i would see is all the fabrication and make the car stable again with the targa on and off. But hey im not going to do it anytime soon, so i wish whoever tries the best of luck!

Well from what i noticed on the vert versus the hardtop, there isn't much of a visible difference...unless there is more structure inside the doors. Only difference i noticed between the 2 is a cross brace behind the back seat and the added brackets and such for the vert top. Plus i went to the parts department and had them bring up the structure info on both celi's and didn't look any different from each other.....so i cut my roof off..... It's looking sweet so far... The car has sat for about a month and has not moved yet. My friend and I added a cross brace from driver to passenger. Once everything on the upper end is done, we are going to make a brace from the back side of the front tire to the front side of the rear tire....to stiffen it back up front to rear. But like i said....car hasn't shifted, moved, tweaked, taco'd etc.etc. I'm excited....

hahahaha i'm going to laugh sooo hard when u cut your top and the first time you bump something it goes squish...
you need to understand the concept of UNIbody cars....the roof is a MASSIVE part of the structural integrity of the car...and u just cut it out i really hope u have a professional install a rollcage...you'll need it hardtops and softtops belong on covertables fixed roofs belong in normal cars if you wanted a hardtop convertable shoulda done it the right way like my friend you start with a convertable and then get a hardtop for it...u don't cut a hatchback This post has been edited by playr158: Dec 18, 2006 - 11:42 AM |
