Not that I have them in my car, (only front Compo and Sub) But the shelf itself is to weak to mount speakers in. So you either need to reinforce the bottom with a sheet of MDF plate or just make your own shelf entirely out of MDF. So in a later stage when you decide to sell the car, it still has a nice clean shelf (if you take the speakers out)

i have mounted a pair of 6x9" speakers in my rear parcel trey. the standard tray supports the speakers fine, but theres no real benefit in adding speakers there. its really only for looks, as there are speakers in the rear panels just infront of the parcel tray anyways.

so if i were u, i wouldnt do it. just put some nice speakers in the back panels.

I made an mdf shelf for my peugeot 306 when I had it, made a very slight modification to it and it fits perfectly in the celica. I have binned the speakers in the rear panels in favour of the speakers that i already had in this shelf.

And if you don't have a sub then personally I think ones in the shelf will sound better than ones in the rear panels as the sound can be reflected slightly off the rear screen towards the driver whereas the rear panel ones are firing sideways.

Just my opinion, don't shout if you don't agree!

I did this to my ST way back. The sound quality is amazing compared to the stock set up. Really no rattling, maybe only when I go over big potholes, ect. but they are great there.

when you think about audio, your soundstage should be at the front of the car.

i.e. if you close your eyes while sitting anywhere in the car, you should be able to visilise in your head that the musics being played from the front... so you should have good speakers at the front, with a tweeter and lower quality or even the same speakers but just gained down in the back, that way the music will always sound like it is comming from the front... thats why I dont go with 6x9s, u loose that effect.

Ill second that. also my taste runs a little more on the subtle street sleeper train of thought and when ever I do anything i feel it has to look like it came out of the factory like it. (dull maybe but hey) and the 6x9's attract a little to much unwanted attention from those little minded people who think that what you have rightly belongs to them. mad.gif
