Hi all, I'm new to the community and bought a stock 6th Gen. Celica Liftback (1995) last weekend. I can probably pick up the car this friday.

My problem is the following, I can't succesfully determine the type of Celica it is (as I don't know the chassis code). Altough I live in the Netherlands, this car was originally sold in Germany, and is being imported this week.

It is listed as having a 1.8 engine, and supplied with ABS and double airbags, but I'm not certain about all that.
I'm certain the car features following:
Ventilated disc brakes at the front, and solid disc brakes at the rear.
5-speed manual gearbox.
Lightweight alloys (probably aftermarket).
Powered front windows and mirrors.
3-spoke steeringwheel (stock toyota wheel, not aftermarket)
No leather interior.
4 stock speakers, but an aftermarket radio/cd/mp3 system.
Vanity mirrors on both sunvisors.

My dad also thought it had an oil-cooler when we looked under the bonnet.

Pictures are available on my weblog at www.bigwaaagh.com

Does anyone have an idea which type it is?
Thanks in advance for the help.

it should be an ST celica because of the 1.8L engine.

If you get us an engine bay picture we can confirm what model it is.

and WELCOME to the board!

Thanks for the welcome and the quick reply, unfortunately I don't have an engine bay picture, I was smart enough to forgot my cam when we went to look at the car.

What I do remember is the text "twin cam efi" or "twin cam fe" in blue (quite decorative) writing on the engine cover. I haven't seen the same writing on any other engine cover yet. All other covers seem to have this writing in black, and in a static more toyota-like font.
I can't recall any other specific feature other than my dad noticing the oil-cooler, so I'm not a 100% sure the engine is the 7a-fe.

doesnt look like it has airbags in the interior pic. there is usually a cut out on the passenger side where it sits.

Also looks like it has rear disc brakes. The ST's came with drums? an engine shot would be the best way to figure it out.

It says it's an ST right below the first pic.

Yea but there are many times when the seller don't know the model of the car. He may say it's an ST but really it could be a GT.

I was wondering about those airbags, wasn't planning on letting those do their magic anyway wink.gif

It has rear disc brakes, that was one of the things that made me wonder if this was indeed an ST, as I first thought (that's why I stated that it's an ST on my blog).

Anyways, thanks for the replies, I'll hopefully get some news about the car tomorrow or the day after. I'll be sure to let you all know what it is when I find out.

When you looked under the hood did it have a 1.8L in it? Cuz if it has rear disc brakes then it can't be an ST unless the person that had it before did a rear disc conversion.

Yes you are correct. The ST's came with drum brakes. But the guy that had it coule have done the conversion. Also it's weird that it doesn't have a passenger front airbag. I'm gonna say its a GT also, specially if it has power locks power window power mirrors and disc brakes. Unless it was a GT and the guy blew the motor and put a 1.8 in there and a disc conversion.

Actually i'm pretty sure that some european model STs came with Disk brakes.
and 1.8L means ST

thought power options ARE NOT specific to GTs and don't really coincide with GT stuff.. my ST was fully loaded electronically so that does u no good.

i say 20$ its an ST

I've come across a few sites where disc brakes and powered windows + mirrors are said to be standard on a european Celica ST.

We'll keep it ST then, hopefully I'll know a bit more tomorrow. If I have the licenseplate number, I'll be able to check how it's registered at the dutch DMV online.

It looks like it has door cards from the leather trim so maybe the extras have been added unless leather door cards were an option with cloth seats.

Well I went to pick up the car today, and it is most defenitely a ST.
The type is an AT200 and the engine is a 7A-FE, just like it should.

Everythings powered (windows and mirrors) and discs all around, but I don't know what and if those things were taken as extra's or were standard. Runs like a charm, and I will be keeping those fenders myself tongue.gif

Sorry, no new photo's yet, will take some tomorrow...
