Being in Minnesota I've never had to deal with Cali. emissions before. Is there a list of what's different so I don't have to worry if, say, some random little engine part I get from the junkyard has to be Cali? advTHANKSance.

95 GT Conv. 5SFE Cali.

IIRC the O2 sensors/front pipe for your particular car.
Possibly more. I don't have all this info stored in my head.

Don't worry about it too much though.
Non CA emissions parts should bolt on in place. It's only if you are in CA that it would really matter.
Or if you're buying a new part, mainly from the dealer.

For checking junkyards, just look for the emissions sticker under the hood.
It will either say Federal emissions or CA emissions.

the injectors, distributor, 2nd 02 sensor and various VSV's, are the major things in a cali spec car.

but, i think all those subtle changes are only enforced on car makers that sell new cars there. i don't they expect your average car owner to retrofit all this stuff on his car just because its in cali now. as long as it passes all the normal sniffer tests and has an egr, then it i think thats all there is to it.

I'm pretty sure that's true. I think my my parent's honda civic is federal spec, they bought it new in 94 in pennsylvania and we moved here to cali the same year. I think what my mom said was they inspected it (not sure if it was just a visual inspection or if they smog it) and since it passed they didn't need to change anything. and the thing has never failed a smog check since.

I'm not really worried about passing emissions, we don't have testing here anymore. I just don't want to have problems with the engine if I mix the parts, like would it run rough or get really bad gas mileage or something? Like when I looked it up I noticed that there are even separate California spark plug wires! Are they really that different? I just figure it's easier to get federal parts around here, y'know?

the spark plug wires are diffrent because the 2 distributors are diffrent, the federal spec having the coil inside the distributor car, and the cali spec having it outside, mounted to the firewall.
no worries on passing emmisions, as long as your car is in good running order, it should pass either way, even in cali.
