Would it be louder if i get two 600wrms 12" subs, or one big 15" 1000wrms sub... They'll be run at 2ohms...
Im thinking Audiobahn for the 12"s, and Kicker for the big 15"... Ive already got two 600.1 JBL amps (580wrms @ 2ohms), but am waiting for feedback before I go and get my sub or subs... |

Depends on the box. If you get a vented box for the 15 it'll be louder. I don't think you'll have enough room for an appropriately large box for 2 twelves. Personally, I'd go for a sealed box for the 12s. It'll punch a lot harder.

haha i have 2 jl 12 w7's stuffed in my trunk, custom made box, but ill tell you.... they HIT not big into sounds competition, i got them because they sound very nice through the amp i have, i listen mostley to like michel buble n stuff the like, but when i do play rock or rap the whole car shakes, you feel the bass in the steering wheel, feel it in your hair, and thats only about 1/3 the gain turned up on the amp, personally i say 2 12's, but the 15 should be louder and give you deeper bass

It's all in the box. A poorly designed box with a great sub will sound good, but a well designed box with a good sub will sound fantastic.

As has been said, there are a lot of factors that will influence the actual volume of two different subs.
All things equal, the two 12's have more surface area, and therefore should move more air. I'm not totally clear on your powering intentions. It looks like you are loooking to run either 2 amps to 2 12" subs, or one amp to one 15" sub, correct? If that is the case, then there is a good chance that the extra power combined with the surface area difference will cause the setup with 2 12's to have more volume. Is that power rating bridged mono? Otherwise, in real life, we need to consider - efficiency of the subs, also factoring in the division of power - box size and type, note that we aren't necessarily talking about the same size box for each setup, it would be better to compare box size per given frequency response and levels. - things like efficiency of the subs and excursion... Based on your post, I'm guessing you could care less about sound quality. If you want loud, then your best bet, from the options listed (in a general sense, see points above) would be to run each amp bridged mono, each feeding their own 12" sub, in a vented enclosure, facing the back of the car. -------------------- The poster is not bound by any accuracy, stated or implied, of the previous post. The amps are mono channel any way so i eont have to bridge them... Id be using the two amps to power the 15", and if i get two 12", each amp will power each sub...
Ive heard alot about Bandpass enclosers, where its a sealed encloser, but you have a vented encloser for the front of the sub... dose any body know anything, or heard any thing about these?... Info so far has been very usefull, im gonna have to try and work my best with the little space there is in the boot already... I listen to mostly rap/hip hop, with lsome dance (but not alot)... SPL is top of the list really... |

Two amps to power one 15? I am guessing it is a DVC. While in theory you can do this, it wouldn't be recommended. Any difference in the signals is going to adversely affect the sound.
While rumor has it that bandpass boxes can sound good (I've never heard one I've liked), prefabbed bandpass boxes are efficient and normally tuned to be boomy - which sounds like it would suit your desires. It sounds like you should go with the 2x12's in a bandpass box. That can be a simple solution - you can walk into any Best Buy or Circuit City and get a bandpass box with subs as a one shot deal. Just buy, dump in car, and hook up wires. In fact, if your amps and wires are ready to go, they may let you pop it in your car to demo it before you buy. -------------------- The poster is not bound by any accuracy, stated or implied, of the previous post. Bandpass boxes are among the more difficult to build...
