I was there...me and my friend left just about an hour before the burnout exhibition started, but we had a friend that stayed to watch it - he sayed the black marks where the car was fishtailing came 2ft. from where he was standing, and the car went into the crowd about 6 feet out from where he was...if i would have stayed - my friend and I would have been right there beside him. He also sayed he saw a leg in the street afterwards... horrible stuff

QUOTE(celi_gt_racer @ Jun 18, 2007 - 11:19 AM) I was there...me and my friend left just about an hour before the burnout exhibition started, but we had a friend that stayed to watch it - he sayed the black marks where the car was fishtailing came 2ft. from where he was standing, and the car went into the crowd about 6 feet out from where he was...if i would have stayed - my friend and I would have been right there beside him. He also sayed he saw a leg in the street afterwards... horrible stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvjHEgo8I10...ted&search= Clearly this is a very sad day for many, horribly tragic for some. I am not wishing to minimize the suffering of the injured or deceased (and their friends and families) or point the finger of blame at the contestants, spectators of event organizers. I was curious about the safety precautions taken. Most drag events use double or triple metal guard rails along the side of the strip. Some use concrete barricades to contain the vehicles within the raceway. Others I have seen use a variety of less safe means to contain the vehicles. Logs http://www.namethattrack.com/track65bst.jpg Fences http://www.namethattrack.com/ntt101.jpg Single guard rail http://www.namethattrack.com/track60.jpg What barricades we used to contain the vehicles within the roadway at this event? Yellow94GT It was a burnout exhibition on a "highway", not in the lanes at a strip and it was an 'unguarded' highway, ie no guardrails. From what i've read in the articles anyhow, but im not 100% sure. damn celi_gt_racer, guess someone was watching out for you |

i guess so... because if we had stayed longer - i was garunteed to be in the vicinity of the crash.
and yes it was just a burnout exhibition... think it's the first year they've let them do that @ cars for kids, because i don't remember seeing it at last year's show -------------------- |
