Dear fellow Celica Owners,

I have to get my vehicle smogged by September 8th and registered. The last time I had my vehicle smogged it failed because I have an air intake that is not "DOT" approved. After failing, I took it to another shop and showed them why I failed. I had it retested and they passed me; thing is, they never replaced the air intake or anything; paid my money and passed.

Now my vehicle is up for SMOG again but California law is that apparently you cannot go to the same SMOG shop twice. It is likely that my car will be failed for the same reason as before unless either I find a shop that is willing to pass me (my actual vehicle emissions are fine) or I just put the stock intake on. Problem with the stock intake is that it is no longer in my posession.

I need some advice from anyone that is willing to help. I live in Santa Rosa, CA (just north of San Francisco), so if anyone knows of a shop that won't give me trouble all the better.

Thanks guys and gals!

i dunno how much money you got but just buy an injen intake. i think someone said that it's the only carb legal intake. And im sure itll pass, i have an injen and i passed with no problems. maybe put on the injen when getting checked then take it off after. but damn man im in CA too and i feel ya, damn gotta love the CA laws!

I think IL laws are more serious than CA. Why didnt you buy it from the start (the dot approved)?

IMO buy a stock intake tract [used should be fine] to have in case you have to throw it on for whatever reason.
That's an easily swappable part, and in CA could save you some hassle.

And CA has the stricktest emissions laws in the country.
They are the only state that has separate emissions labels for it [emissions labels under the hood are either Federal spec or CA spec].
There are other states that have started to follow suite.
In MA you can no longer sell a Federal spec new car, it has to be CA spec.
They and other states also have emissions testing now as well.

When I had to get my car smogged, they didn't even say anything. My CAI is non branded and they didnt seem to have a problem with it. I was afraid that they were going to not pass me because of it, but they did. I would recomend just going to various shops and asking them up front if it will matter.

That might only be certain counties.
All CA counties don't have the same emissions laws.
