when setiing off from the lights, espesially in the wet, my celica just wheelspins badly, all the way up to the rev limit in 1st and sometimes also in 2nd! Ive tried 2 sets of tires and always have the same problem, and have never had this problem in any of my previous cars.what can i do to help stop this, and suspension mods? Its a basically standard st202 GT, check my profile for more info. Any help would be appreciated, Sam

Any help would be appreciated, Sam Your main options are: 1. learn how to control your car through proper use of the accelerator (gas pedal) and clutch 2. fit an aftermarket traction control system, preferably one with launch control You could alternatively attempt to fit a traction control system intended for another car, such as scrapped parts from an IS200, earlier or later gen or a Supra. But unless you really do your research you could end up making things worse rather than better going this route. I can get the car to grip throught proper use of the accelerator, but im from england, and its always raining here, and im gettin beat ijn the wet by much slower n less powerfull cars, juast because they grip. Are all st202s like this? The front end feels very light, but handles great round cornrs.

you need to find better tires, I mean the tires you have they may be good but not for the the conditions you are. you need the best tires for raining. do some research about tires and you'll see the difference.

Will they really make all that difference? it seems really light at the front end, would lowering the front more than the back, or stiffening the suspension help?

no i can set off fine, but even if i mput my foot down at 5000rpm, it spins up. I can b carefull and keep it grippin, but then u get overtaken and beat lol

If you're talking about street-racing, quit while you're ahead unless you want to get your thread locked and the mods'll get all itchy.

Oh grow up guys. Just cause someone takes their car to 5K does not mean they're street racing. It could just mean he actually has some fun while driving.
How many miles on your car though? You're struts could be going. Even if not, stiffer ones could help. But I agree with everyone else, rubber should make the biggest difference. My GT's old and stock, and I spin a bit in the rain when accelerating hard, but not as bad as it sounds like you are. Lastly, not meaning any offense, but it really could be your driving. If you haven't raced a manual much(meaning on a track, to clarify for you nit-pickers ), you could just be learning how to launch. Just a thought.... -------------------- |

first off your exhaust is huge! wider tires, better tires more suited for wet weather, and also slip the clutch a bit so you dont bog it and also so less power gets to the wheels, its gonna put some wear on the car but will help for launches when you need to pull out super fast

I have similar issues in my GT very slick, and when autocrossing I have big issues when turning tends to slide straght when on the gas, with toyo proxi tires. you can try wider tires, but check alignment and camber, could be that your not getting the full tire flat and straght on the groud. can also try a softer compond tire but they ware faster.

I use to have the same problem. Getting street performance tires helps alot. You can tell a major difference. Esp when speeding in the rain, you feel stuck to the road and not lifted and feel like your jet planing. And yes, aftermarket suspensions upgrade does help alot with traction. If you get adjustable coilovers, you can stiffen the back where as the rear springs won't lownch when you launch so most of the weight stays in the front and not the back where as traction pulls and not drags.
