would you guys recommend replaced the blown 8" drivers in the premium door setup or making a bracket and installing replacement 8" subs??? I was looking at 8" rockford punch, they are cheap...

I have an ST (4 speaker panel), my panels are getting old and I would like to replace them.
Would the 8 speaker panel one fit?

Thanx

I know the stock speaker that was in my door was 8"
But when I put my Kicker 8" midbass drivers I had to cut & trim the mount and got them to fit pretty easily.

8 speaker (1 tweeter in each mirror triangle, 2 in each door (4"and 6.5"), 1 in each rear panel)

actually in the premium audio package the doors house 8" drivers, some models such as the Kicker SSMB8's will not fit the bracket perfectly, thus require some modifications

Damn I want those door panels they look so ummm NEW!!! =)

how would you put a 6.5" speaker in the door where the 8" normally goes. would use some kind of bracket?

I bought the midbass Kicker 8" for my door panels. Whoever said it needs modification is correct, if you dont then your door wont be able to go on correctly. So what I did is just cut the bracket to where it will flex around the kickers, wrapped it around the kicker put a screw in it and sealed the entire thing with sealant.

Sounds nice and works.

There is another option too. I had stock the 8"s in the door, the tweets in the mirrors and the 6"s in the rear with one amp, CD/Radio and no tape deck.
The only 8 speaker setups I have seen have been in verts. IDK if that's always true just what I have seen.

Do the 4 speaker systems have the external OEM amp?

Hopefully not, sounds like a hassle(don't want to add amp/wires).

I have the premium 8 speaker package in a hatchback... 95 GT...so it was available on others than the convertible but my GT is fully loaded smile.gif. Your eights are actually 6.5's in "custom" stock brackets to fit the eight inch holes. and they are 6.5's in the back and thats the same for every option

on another note... i know from taking out the premium sound that the HVAC amp in the eight speaker is the same as the 6 speaker and the one under the driver seat powers the 25W (compared to 15W) 8 inch sub woofers in the door (yes they are subs) AND both amps are Fujitsu Ten meaning we have ECLIPSE amps stock in our cars smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif much love to ECLIPSE for some of the best sounding equipment... i've always used there stuff and will til i die smile.gif also i will be posting in the for sale topic my premium sound amps (both of them) and the wiring for it all in good and working condition smile.gif since i now have an eclipse touch screen head unit powering it all smile.gif

Are you referring to the Kicker SSMB8 speakers? I was considering a pair to replace the stock speakers which have crumbled surrounds. At $99 online they sound like a pretty good deal. With the stock speakers costing $160 / each, it doesn't make sense to go stock.

However, I'm concerned that the Kickers are 4 ohm rather than the stock 2 ohm. Do they sound all right, or do they sound excessively quiet, given they have double the resistance of the stock speakers?

Either way, I'm sure they sound better than speakers with completely disintegrated surrounds!!

Also, does anyone have recommendations for replacements for the 6.5" speakers in the rear?

Thanks,

Matt

Why do you say that it is 2ohm? both my celica come with 4 ohm speakers and 2ohm speakers is not common at all.

I know 2-ohm is not common...that's why it's next to impossible to find a 2-ohm replacement. From looking ath the drivers int the doors, the 4" midrange and the tweeters are both marked 4-ohm, while the stock 8" drivers are marked 2-ohm on the back. Putting a 4-ohm speaker where there had been a 2-ohm will effectively reduce the power of the amp, so I was concerned about them sounding too quiet relative to the rest of the system.

OK. Let me get this straight. So, it's TWO 6.5" Tweeter Speakers in the front (for the 2 big ones)? Alot of people are saying 8" speakers and it's really confusing.

There are at least five configurations of speaker system for the Celica:

1. 6.5" in the rear, 6.5" in the front. I believe this is standard for the US and the ST in the UK
2. 6.5" in the rear, 8" in the front. I believe this is standard for the GT in the UK
3. 6.5" in the rear, 8" and tweater in the front
4. 6.5" in the rear, 6.5" and tweater in the front
5. 6.5" in the rear, 4", 8" and tweater in the front

I think it is this last configuration that most people here are talking about.

It's not an 8" speaker, it's a 6.5" speaker in an 8" hole.

OMG noob moment!!! i totally didn't even know that that box under my seat was an AMP!! i just shrugged it off and thought it was the ecu or something. So i have a question...i have an aftermarket kenwood deck and when the shop installed it, they had to bypass the internal amp. So, my deck alone doesn't push enough power for the 8 speakers. (actually its only six, as i have removed the back speakers because they were blown) Since it doesn't produce enough power, my 8" subs don't hit as hard as they did with factory deck. ( I would have stayed stock but my factory deck skipped on every little bump) So my question is can i somehow still use that external amp??? Thanks everyone for the info!!

as far as i know.. the only 8" were available in the 8 speaker premium sound with the 2 amps (number 5)... the other options have a 6.5 inch speaker in a molded metal adapter so numbers 2 and 3 don't exist but all front holes are 8" and all backs are 6.5"
