Has anyone here done a turbo kit with a 5th injector instead of changing out the stock injectors and fuel pump like kits for Hondas and Hyundais use? For someone looking for a modest increase in power that wouldn't require changing axles/clutch this seems like a cheaper and easier way to go, if there's a way to splice into the fuel rail that is.

you can use a sub injector controller like a Greddy Rebic, but its like $550 plus dollars, and probably not as simple as it sounds. I dont think there is really a "simple" way to turbo an NA car.

So these $2400 turbo kits like these, most of the cost is probably the piggyback ECU? http://www.alamomotorsports.com/alpine/alp...html#HT2TO-0001

check out turbo specialties. They have something like that. Its an easy quick button you use to add and take away fuel.
You gotta remember cheap isnt the way to go. You gotta pay to play bro. -------------------- 98 Celica gt red- totaled deer

So I keep hearing but I'm getting a little tired of seeing other people boost civics for less than $1000 in parts, slaping it togethr in one weekend and tuning it with Turbo Edit, then kicking my ass lol.

You want cheap get everything used. Although I do not recommend this, because half the used suff will crap out on you.

I wasn't suggesting that I wanted to buy this kit, just that I've seen Civic owners take a used turbo, some misc piping and without so much as poping the valve cover on their motor, put down an extra 60 hp. where it seems for Celicas you have to spend a minimum for $2000 to do that even with used parts.

Civics can simply buy a pre-programmed chip for their ECU rather than needing a piggyback unit and tuning. they don't need to relocate their oil filter, they don't upgrade their map sensor (though they probably should), their IC piping doesn't need to be as long as ours (or they can get premade IC piping kits that re welded so that cuts down on the cost of couplers and clamps), some don't upgrade their fuel systems, and other things i can't think of right now. if you really wanted to you could just get a manifold, turbo, downpipe assembly for $200-250, and just enough piping to go from the turbo to the throttlebody, the turbo coolant and oil lines, and relocate the oil filter with a cheap kit and spend maybe a total of $500 and have a working turbo kit, but it will definately blow your motor in a relatively short amount of time. if you add about $600 worth of fuel upgrades, $200 for some gauges, $500 for an intercooler and all associated piping, and then you're sitting on a reliable kit, but then you're back up around $2000 again. and that's why it costs what it does. -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

You just did what I do on a napkin every month or so. I get to 2 grand then I think screw it I might as well get a 3SGTE, then I think screw it I might as well sell the car and get something else. Then I do nothing and wait for that $6000 all-trac to magically appear for sale in my local paper. lol.

I dont think there is really a "simple" way to turbo an NA car. Another cheaper solution while still able to get some decent tuning is getting an E-manage Blue or Ultimate. Both units also offer sub-injector controller which is RPM and MAP-load based for much better tuning. Most civics will already beat our cars both in stock form due to they are lighter. Parts are cheap for civics because they are so freakin common. Open any magazine and there you go, cheap parts available. Our parts are cheap as well, just not as readily availabe. There has to be some "leg-work" to get them. You could get the parts listed by 6strngs for $500, run it at low boost (5-7psi) and gain about as much as you say civics do. But even hondas have to shell out big bucks for reliability. What is it, CHEAP / FAST / RELIABLE pick two. Everyone, hondas/toyotas/nissans etc. have to play by this rule. -------------------- CLOSED on 25 acres! -shop coming soon.... |

Just because you see people do dumb stuff, doesn't mean you should too. Do it right or don't do it at all. If you try to cheap out, it will only cost you more down the road when you blow your motor.

Why does it matter if its single or dual overhead? it doesnt really matter. Unless you're talking about the civics, where once ac is removed you have all the room in the world to boost it.

They run on a slave cam, theres only 1 cam gear driven by the timing belt, the other is driven from a gear under the valve cover. The gear is built onto the shaft of the main gear. -------------------- Member of Team 5sfTe
