hey everyone,
i just bought my celica with 66k 2 weeks ago and i love it. the only thing that annoys me is that the car has this ever so small shake. i cant tell for sure, but i would say my idle is between 700 and 800 which sounds about right. however, when i raise the rpms closer to 1000 the car runs sooo smooth i cant even tell its on. my questions are: 1 what should the idle be on the celica? 2 is there a way to adjust the idle? i.e. a TB screw? or cable tensioner? something like that? 3 do you think cleaning out the idle air control valve with TB cleaner is worth a shot? (tried it with last car and worked great) the shake is nothing horrible but to be honest i love it when i know my engine is running perfectly. makes me feel warm and fuzy inside. oh yea, i know these are pretty basic questions but im new to toyota, since i just switched from vw and i dont have a repair manual yet. anyway, some advice and opinions would be awesome. -------------------- i love how my wheel hopping, corner rolling, one wheel wonder celica looks XD |

the spec for the idle is 750. so you're right in the range. you could try to clean the idle air control valve out. It's somewhat common on this car after high milage for them to get dirty and cause the car to have trouble starting, yours may be beginning to get dirty. or you could have a bad motor mount. thanks. this place is awesome, soo much information about my new baby that im up till 2 in the morning reading everything XD
okay so im going to clean my IAC then and see what happens. im thinking that it might not be opening all the way and preventing airflow and so on. you mentioned the motormount, i vaguely remember reading something about this, could you be more specific? also, how would raising the rpms closer to 1000 affect the mount and create a vibration free idle? thanks in advance -------------------- i love how my wheel hopping, corner rolling, one wheel wonder celica looks XD |

I just know that when I got the polyurethane inserts for my motor mounts everything shook and rattled at idle, and it smoothed out a bit at around 1K rpms. -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

Hello guys, i have question.
Can you describe where the idle air control valve is or post a pic?! I need to clean mine. I have an aftermarket service manual but there is very little info on the starting/fuel/injector systems. Thanks Dave |
