QUOTE(MaskedMan @ Feb 5, 2008 - 2:41 AM) Are there any noticeable differences between the Ebay 7th gen shortshifter and the authentic TRD 6th gen quickshifter? yes, the diffrences are huge, the ebay is just a straight shaft, thats it. it "fits" and "works" but IMO is quite notchy. the quickshifter, is a complete assembely, and shifts VERY smoothly. there is a big diffrence between a "short" shifter, and a quickshifter. a short shifter is just that, short, and by effect, makes the throws shorter. more for looks than anything, most of the time makes shifting HARDER. a quickshifter is made for racing, where you have BOTH hands on the wheel. its made so that you can quickly reach down, flick the shifter into the next gear, and get your had back to the wheel quick. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

TRD gives you the least reduction out of all SKs for our cars
TWM gives you the greatest reduction. TRD = ~40% shorter throw TWM = ~60% shorter throw I'm a huge fan of the TWM...cheaper + better function. |

I agree with Manny 100%. there is a massive difference between the two. the 7th gen shifter is very notchy, but some people like it like that. I've never had a stock shifter for comparisson to that but when comparing the 7th gen and the TRD shifters the TRD wins in quality and smoothness hands down. although, that's why it's much more expensive. -------------------- |

I installed my 7th gen ebay shortshifter today, and I have to say I definitely believe that the TRD ones are much smoother. I noticed that with the new SS, it's pretty much exactly like stock except definitely a way shorter throw. It's pretty stiff though, which is one of the things I liked, but then again I've never had anything shift smoother than stock haha. So basically I agree too, except it's not really harder than stock. |

Well, I have a 6th ge. TWM short shifter and it was very stiff and felt like there were rocks while shifting but i only used WD-40 to lube the ball joints (which you shouldn't do) and no grease, so thanks to Valo666, he advised that i went to get some white lithium grease from partsource, its a big spray canister with the small nose extention piece (the red straw) and sprayed it in the ball joints and its still a bit hard once in awhile when shifting into 1st gear and reverse, however the rest of the shifting into all other gears are beautifully smooth. So that's my 2 cents
P.S. If you were to purchse the TRD quick shift kit, since it's a complete assembly could you simply cut the stick down to make it shorter and custom groove it back so you can put back on ur OEM knob or get an aftermarket knob with those screw tightning screws? i don't see anything wrong with that. It shouldn't affect the shifts. This post has been edited by _mikeE: Feb 7, 2008 - 1:46 AM |
