Hi guys,
I've been having a problem with my car lately. It shifts into every gear just fine. And it will stay in every gear just like normal except for fifth. If I let my foot off the gas really quickly while I'm in fifth gear, it will fall out of gear and go into neutral. If I keep pressure on the gas pedal, or let of the gas slowly when I want to slow down, it will stay in fifth just fine. I have heard that this might be because I have low transmission fluid, which is entirely possible because I have never checked it or had it flushed, and I'm not sure if the owner before me did. I've also heard that it may be a synchro in the tranny. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks very much! |

Well, its your synchros if you shift into gear and it pops out right away. Since you can shift into gear and it will stay until you let off then I'm not too sure. If you think you're low on gear oil why won't you check it. Its the huge bolt on the upper part of the tranny. stick your finger in there and if you can feel gear oil then you aren't low.

if I were you first thing I would check is the shifter cable linkage on the trans itself (and maybe even at the shifter). it's probably not that since if it were it would happen in more than just one gear, but it's an easy thing to check and rule out.

It's most likely your synchro, they work both ways; they make shifting easier and they hold the shift fork in place.

I took it to get the tranny fluid filled up, and it seemed to work a lot better after, and it didnt fall out. But the bad news is the guy who changed it said it was so low because there was a major leak in it. In one of the seals, so now its in the shop and its getting looked at. I hope this turns out ok, and its not that the tranny needs to be replaced. Thanks for your help guys.
