Okay, so i currently have the palm treo 700w for Verizon. Ive been looking into the Blackberry curve for quite some time now and recently went to Verizon to purchase it. Only to find out that i have to get a data plan along with it. This was said about all the Blackberry's that they have. My question is, is there any way around it? Some of my buddies have the curve for at&t and they don't have to purchase a dataplan. They told me that since the blackberries run off a broadband network, even for calls, a dataplan must be purchased. I dont understand how the same phone for a different carrier doesnt run on the same broadband network. So, does anybody here have a blackberry for verizon WITHOUT a dataplan?

Keep the treo, it freezes and constantly craps its pants and does wierd crap, but it is sooooooo much better than any blackberry.... easier interface and just plain better all around... id rather put up with the treo being a todler than having to deal with a blackberry...

yea, my treo does some funny sh*t sometimes. freezes ocasionally, not to mention i hate the touchscreen. Even with the lock on it, i end up calling people by accident ( that got me in trouble lol). I need something compatible with mac too, as the treo version i have isnt.

Yeah, I don't think you can get around the data plan. I also don't think the Blackberry is Mac compatible - although I could be wrong on this one. My g/f has the Pearl and we haven't tried connecting it to my Mac at home. . . but for whatever it's worth, she's been very happy with it.

yea, my roommate has one and it works with his mac right out of the box. wtf though, $30 a month for a data plan is the cheapest they have. Thats not too expensive, but i dont want to pay that, just to get the phone.

well, I realize paying the extra may suck but they're nice. Having all that stuff available is REALLY nice! Go with T-mobile!! You may have to get a data plan when you first get the phone but you can get rid of that whenever you want!

I used to have T mobile and i will never go back. i hate the coverage...maybe i'll just suck it up and get it and if i dont feel like paying the 30, ill get rid of the phone and switch back to my treo.

Update:

Picked up the curve Saturday night and i love it. Unlimited Internet and Email for 30 a month. Alot better than my treo and easier to navigate through. The only problem ive been having is the battery life. It's like 1.5 days, with few web browsing and maybe 1.5 hours of talking a day with lots of texting. I just thought it wouldve been a bit longer.
