hello im a new car owner and im very excited to start learning about my car. all my precious research was on honda motors (honda/acura) mostly b18 and b20. im new to toyota and want to learn my car inside and out! i own a 1994 celica st hatchback (automatic) and it has around 225000 miles on it. soon i want to be doin an enigine swap. 3sgte from an mr2. i know i will have to convert to a manual, and i need gt engine mounts. but that about all i know. if anyone would like to provide me with references or advice for my celica it would be greatly appreciated. like on the the auto to manual conversion and estimated cost. thank you very much!

check out the forced induction section and browse the stickies. an easier motor to swap would be that from a 90-93 alltrac or a 94-99 gt4. the mr2 will require a bit of modification to fit in the bay nicely.
any pics of the ride? also where you located? i'm sure there is someone not too far away that could help ya.

welcome to the boards

alltrac and gt4 have the same motor as the mr2 turbo (3sgte) but more of a drop in swap for our engine bay. it would require either a modified mr2 tranny (NA or Turbo) or a gt transmission since the tranny that's bolted to it is awd and won't work on our car without a lot of dangerous modification.
because you are in cali though makes the swap possibilities much more limited. basically the only motor you could really swap in your car legally there is a cali spec 3sgte from a 94-95 mr2 turbo. otherwise you won't ever be able to get it to pass smog (atleast that is what i've read).

i don't know of any celi members with a swap but there are quite a few that have turboed or are planning on turboing in the near future. that said i know there are always ways around the laws but i'm not going to go into details about that LOL.

i'm not going to lie, hondas are much easier and cheaper to modify because everyone has them and mods them. that's one of the things i love about the 6gc. it's rare and will stand out with much less done to it.

thanks for all the help so far i really appreciate it. so if i want a swap i would have to go with a 94-95 3sgte from an mr2. with that i need a gt tranny, gt engine mounts? and a 3sgte clip would be what i want right. from what i understand the clip does not come with everything. what doesnt it come with? and are there any parts i should replace just to be on the safe side?

3s-gte's have E154 gearbox. the other celica motors 5s-fe, 3s-fe, 3s-ge use S54's... they will get munched under a turbo engine
