I would like to share with weird experience... I bought ST (European model, 115HP) 4 years ago and was so happy driving that "fast" car (previous experience only with crappy 50ponny jalopy so you can imagine my happiness ). Than after two years Romas turned my ST to ST-T (176/206HP). And I had feeling like "I can fly" lol. After another year everything went wrong. Not with car... with me . That car is "slow" again! I just have... Or better say had that feeling all the time. Everything has changed after experinence with stock Euro GT (170HP). One of my friends (just sick of my stupid talking) said: "You think you have slow-ass car? Here... try my GT". I was shocked... my first question was: "Anything broken in your car?... that engine has 'no power'. Acceleration is horrible...". No his car was in perfect shape... It was just in me. I'm sure now. Because few weeks ago I had chance to drive JDM SS-II with beams inside (so instant 200HP car). I had almost the same feeling... that means... that car is "slow". According to my feelings of course... So... I have only two explanations:
a) I'm boost addicted b) my ST-T has more power than 206HP !? Or is it just reality only turbocharged engine can give you that real feeling you have "fast" car? Sad to say I have never drove stock GT-four to compare... So I can not say -------------------- No more replicas... This is evolution... This is SS-four :)

You just adjust to the increase in hp/tq and the way it feels.
but it doesn't come from having a turbo'd car. Naturally aspirated ///M3 feels (and is) a good bit faster than my turbo'd Jetta. It just comes from acclimating to something better than what you previously had. |

in my experience, unless you are on a track, a turbo car will most always 'feel' faster than an equivalent n/a car
reason being, there is no sudden boost on the n/a car. the turbo lag (as long as its not tooooo laggy for the size turbo) is what makes turbo's so much fun. you get the normal pep of the engine than BAM you get a brick wall slamming into you. where as an n/a car gradually makes power throughout the powerband. n/a are most likely faster for track use than any turbo car due to the lag and also due to a smooth power curve. also turbo cars feel 'slow' after a while because you get used to boost kicking in. and unless you crank it up a few lbs and get and extra 50 or so horses out of it its never going to feel fast again (unless you get used to driving something slower) and id love to toy around in that m3 -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!

Haha, he's saying this because he had the chance that none of us will never even dream of having: being driven in tufy's insane gt-four celica. (gr so jealous) But yeah, I really want to get the 3s motor soon...sick of this slow 5s motor.

You fall into the trap that most people do, thinking that BHP is what makes a car feel fast. It isn't, it's Torque that makes a car feel like it accelerating fast, even if it isn't.
We have TDCI Ford Mondeo estates at work (turbo diesel station wagons), and they feel quicker accelerating than my Gt, because they have loads more torque. But if you actually look at the 0-60's, the celica is about 2 seconds faster. It's the torque that you're addicted to, as that's the thing that pushes you back in the seat, even if you're not getting to 60 any quicker. If that makes any sense? -------------------- |

Boost is addicting, this is true. I drove my co-workers R32 today and it was nice, but what it's missing is the feeling of being put back in your seat like a turbo does.

All those cars were rated a the crank. Your turbo ST was rated at the wheels.
A normal beams car only puts down about 175hp. Turbo cars normally have more torque and instant power, where as the NA 4cly ones wont even reach that 175hp until redline. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I have looked on torques and... see numbers: Euro ST: 154Nm ~ 114 ft·lbf Euro GT: 186Nm ~ 137 ft·lbf JDM SS-II: 216Nm ~ 159 ft·lbf my baby: 225/296Nm ~ 166/218 ft·lbf so even low boost is more than 3SGE beams... That makes sense a damn lot now! note: stock GT-four has 304Nm ~ 224 ft·lbf... but because it's for (about) 200kg ~ 440lb heavier... who knows Hope it's right -------------------- No more replicas... I guarantee you your ST feels quicker than a GT-4, since it's lighter. I'm sure the GT-4 has more power and torque, but will not feel so agile like your car. Oh, and if you get used to the boost level, crank it down for a month and your car will feel sluggish. Turn it up again and you'll feel it fast...for at least a couple of hours. That's what I do with my ST so it doesn't feel slow all the time.

I drive a 00 GT-S 6-speed that I've done some things to so it's roughly 215hp w/a 8,400 rpm redline...sometimes it puts me in the back of my seat...I'd love to turbo one of the ST's that we have sitting in my mom's garage but I parted out my kit and am only left with the turbo header...also...New Hampshire sucks for emissions :-( You can only get away with a turbo in a 94!

Boost is awsome the thing is with a turbo you feel the power even after you get use to it, once you hit 3k you feel the boost kick in and the pull forward, with an NA motor the pull is much more even (even loosly stated) thus you dont really feel it after you get use to it (IMO.)
