Claybar or some vinegar diluted with water should do the trick.

a nice wash and wax does a decent job of removing fresh water marks.

Anything more then a couple months old water mark would require a polishing compound.

I recomend the meguires 3 step wax.

if you have hard water there isnt much you can do to get rid of spots but theres a way to lessen them. just wash your car from the roof down and one section at a time. rinsing and drying all the way. this usually takes care of spots for me...

wash your car at night or in the shade.

i usually do:
wash car
dry car
clay bar the car
wash car again
dry car
turtle wax rubbing compound
buff off to perfection
then wax car
wax thinner thing
then buff and buff.

Spot on rusty,

Also to remove them from glass....could you just clean them with glass cleaner? I have found that the easiest way.

any brands you recommend?
i dont think i need to buff the car, it got painted and buffed 2 months ago
or i should do that at the end?

Hey, this may be a strange idea, but for the windows what about using something like CLR on them to remove the spots, then clean them as usual? I bet that would work awesome. I wouldn't use it on my paint (well on mine i would but that's because my paint already looks like ass) but if I cared more I wouldn't. But on the windows, I bet it'll do the job effortlessly.

SWISSVAX PRODUCTS!!!!!!!!!!! the lexus guys use that.......im currently using Samurai. expensive though.........if you want some over-the-counter cheap products stick with Meg products........i only used Turtle wax for the car wash soap and rubbing compound.

AND NO ON THE CHAMz USE MICRO-FIBER!!!! and wash them right after use. i say 3 weeks tops on each m/f towel then get a new one. then you can use the old ones for interior wiping and rim cleaning.

My car had a few panels repainted, and I don't think the previous owner even had them wetsanded. So I have those panels, plus the panels with the factory paint that have hard water spots. I'd really like to detail the car to get rid of any swirls/marks that are on the car, what would be the best way to take care of this, and what would I need to get to achieve a better looking paint? I'm sure I would need a buffer, so is there one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I might just go about having it detailed by a local guy, might be better off, but if I can save some money, I would really like to.

Let me point you guys to a place that really helps out the Vette community: www.autogeek.net

I personally use a Porter Cable 7424 random orbital machine with a white pad for light marks/spots, or orange pad for deeper ones. My polish of choice is Menzerna Intensive and Menzerna Final Polishes. That website I posted above has a really good video tutorial of the Porter Cable and proper usage. Having no experience with it, I did my first panel on the nose of my vette and was AMAZED when I completely took out a bird poo etching. The PC7424 can be had for around $100, but the kits they sell with pads and such for $175ish are WELL worth it.

As for the water spots, the Vinegar wipe is actually a really good trick, and it quite safe. If they don't come out from that, you can probably hide them with a wax, but they'll still show up as the wax wears off. If you want to remove it, break out the buffer and polishing compounds.
