can you fit the st202 motor in the 204 chassis? can the 202 engine bolt onto the 204 gearbox? what modifications need? |

ST202 carries 3SGE engine (or beams for the 4th gen), you can fit a 202 motor in the 204 no problem, the 202 tranny should work just fine. The only mod I can think of is the wiring.

Both models are "s" series engines. So the tranny and moter mounts, even the clutch would work perfectly. But the st204 comes with a 5sfe engine. Wich is a fuel economy engine which means it doesn't have the vvt-i. So wiring and ecu will not work. But phoenixtuning.com will provide you with a plug and play wiring harness.

wouldn't the 202 ecu and wire hardness come with the engine if i buy a halfcut..? if i do buy it, is it just straight plug in... like cluster.. and engine bolts right in.. is there any other modifications required anywhere... like will my power steering work with the 3sge engine? ect...

Since the power steering pumps, a/c compressor, alternater, etc. are mounted in the exact same location and the engine blocks are almost exact. It should work just fine.

As I said before you need to do some rewiring and you might need the 202 cluster for the odo to work. -------------------- 98% completion --- aaRon |

I agree. If you use the 3sge wiring harness it will follow the correct path... but not so sure it will just "plug up." It probably would with the correct cluster and the 3sge ecu. And if not it wouldn't be hard to correct. As long as you have wiring diagrams for both engines to cross reference. But there realy isn't a lot of differences between the 2 engine designs.

Sorry bout the old thread bump, but just wondering if there is much or any difference in the suspension between the two.
I'm looking to buy a set of BC Coilovers, although, the Vehicle Compatibility says Toyota Celica ST202 (94-99). My car is the Australian ST204 Liftback. http://justjap.com/store/product.php?produ...at=0&page=1 Would these still fit and work perfectly? Thanks. -------------------- |

Provided that you don't have a SuperStrut Suspension setup, it'll work just fine.
