which speakers should i replace the stock speakers with? I am fairly sure i'm getting a Boston Acoustic 6 comp set handed down to me and then i'm looking at a 4 channel fosgate amp but what about the 2 rears? They're 6 1/2" but looks that you could fit up to 8" by the enclosing size? Recomendations for the back two? Playing hard rock, NOT rap and am using an alpine 9807 head.

Thanks to all,
Amory

umm

try to get them all the same brand and model

like lets say for example there are alpine type r components for the front

well then get alpine type r 6 1/2 two or three ways in the back

its called voice matched

so it all sounds the same

Also, are the BA PS 6 Comps a good set of speakers? i would be getting them as an x-mas present so i'm not paying for the comps, it'd just be for the 2-way.

Boston Acoustics makes some incredible stuff. I'd compare them too MB Quart. Considered audiophile quality. The rockford amp would work but with speakers of that quality I'd get a better amp. The Xtant A4004T is rated at 50x4 and sells for a little over $225.

Ok, well $ is short and since i wouldnt be paying for the comps; just the two-way, i think i'll stick with the B.A's. Also, are you implying that Fosgates are bad amps or just that there are better? because its not like they are bad amps when compared to say sony and sorts like that. Plus with the comps, wouldnt you want more than 50 RMS watts pushing them? they're rated for 20-200; so wouldnt having 65-80 RMS watts and not pushing the amp as hard be a little better or is that off base?

Thanks,
Amory

by saying that the xtant is a better amp than RF is that the sound quality is better

better configuration, better transformers, resistors, etc. all the electronics, signal processing, and everything else is made at a higher quality.

companies like sony are all about the mass sales.

look at it this way

which is better civic ex or McLaren F1

obviously the McLaren because its mostly hand made and better materials go into the construction than the civic

so the xtant is mclaren and sony is honda

and no xtant isnt the best it was just an example comparing it to the McLaren

also for wattage its good to go to the mid high range for them

anything above 20 watts will make them sound decent but generally speaking the more watts the better.

its like gas for your car

racing fuel will make it perform WAY better than 87 octane pump gas.

Also the higher quality amps generally give you more wattage than they are rated for.

THe only thing about the Xtant one you recommended is that its 50W @ 2ohms and 25W @ 4ohms VS the 140W @ 2ohms and 70W @ 4ohms of the comprably priced RF 551X. How much extra wattage would the Xtant be putting out? Otherwise, we've had a few RF Punch amps before and been satisfied with how they sounded, so whatever i can get a better deal on would be my best bet.

if your running components up front that's more than enough high's for the car i would suggest running drivers in the rear. they are designed more for mid to low range and will suppliment the components. as far as size that all depends on how crazy you wanna get with the install. 6.5" fit without any fabrication, just a little nipping and tucking.
