Roll Cage, can it be done? Options

guys I was in a bad accident with a friend of mine a few weeks ago and am still recovering. He had a small subaru and it got killed being t-boned only at 30 mph. so I want to install more protection for myself in my 96 celica gt by adding reinforcement cage inside. can it be done???

i am looking to do the same thing eventually...unless you get one custom made i dont know of any other places that sell rollcages for our cars but this place:

write them and see if they will fit in a Left-hand drive celica...im pretty sure the 4,5,and 6 points will but im not 100%....they are a little pricey but then again they should be direct bolt in and if it saves a life then its well worth it....some people are going to tell you 0oo0 dont do that its not worth it or its going to look stupid but i could care less...good luck and i hope you and your buddy feel better...sucks for the subie though

Roll cages are only meant to protect you in case of a roll over.
They wont make your car any more resistant to impact, or protect you any better on the street.

this is true...it will help sturdy up the chasis...but its not going to do anything unless you roll your car...i take turns a little fast at times but after what happened to my friend driving STRAIGHT in an s2000...im seriously considering one

You need full racing seats, harness and a helmet with a roll cage. If you get into an accident with a roll cage, chances are you'll get more messed up from hitting the cage during impact.

true, guys I was T-boned by an F150 and my door caved in and bent over my right side and then my seat (i was the passenger) got laid all the way back. It was bad, I saw pics of the car but fortunately I really don't remember getting hit by the truck. I got a concusion and pretty much was passed out. I never saw it coming.

So, if the roll cage won't help side impacts, what possibly could? Any custom reinforcement welding you think???

no cage = go kart

Roll cages belong in racecars and not street cars.

So, if no roll cage, what can I do about beefing up my sides of the celi for better side impact accidents? Can welding some in-door steel strips help?

true...true....i was thinking more on the rolling part of it....2 very close friends of mine died last christmas in a s2000....had the roll cage come sooner it might have saved their lives....he had it lowerd and it bottomed out going through an intersection...when it came back up the ass end got loose and he spun and rolled clipping a tree and completely riping the whole top of the car off....for an average accident though i could see why it would be more harm then help

Honestly, the biggest thing you can do is not speed on the Blvd. That is such a terribly designed street that has claimed MANY lives over the years. Yet people still street race up and down it and drive like maniacs from light to light.

For a cage to work, you need to be strapped in so that you don't slide out as the car rolls and you need to wear a helmet at all times. Totally pointless on the street since most people find it too much of a hassle to even put on their seat belt.

Wear your seat belt, dont ditch your air bag for a cool jdm steering wheel, and drive safer. Those 3 things will do more then some roll cage in the event of an accident.

x2 now that i think about it i see why roll cages are not legal in maryland (according to a friend of mine the logic was roll cage=racing therefore illega)l, but bump that! i didnt think about crackin your skull!
