Ok.. So I'm thinking of switching from my current head unit to a double DIN. The reason being is this... My head unit is playin-up (it's a face-off type and the connector seems dodgy). There's a guy I work with selling a brand new double DIN head unit I'm interested in. This thing plays DVD's, has a 6.5" touchscreen LCD, Bluetooth, TV, MP3, WMA and DivX compatible, has connection for Ipod/Zen, etc, etc... the list goes on and on...

He only wants £60 for it too!!

Only one problem...

The face doesn't come off, which worries me as the unit will be on display 24/7 and might tempt someone to break into my car kindasad.gif

What do you guys think?

Go ahead and upgrade. Sounds sweet. Just make sure you park in the garage at night, and upgrade your alarm as well wink.gif

Get this one:

So if someone trys to jack your stuff, you'll get a beep on your handset showing you a picture of who's ass to go and beat laugh.gif

It does sound like a damn fine deal, however I would be wary too if I had to leave it exposed.

That's the only thing that worries me a bit about my head unit, I take the face off daily when I park my car at school, and I'm a tiny bit worried that the connection could wear prematurely.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've had this thing fixed before (on warranty) but it's at it again. Just tried the double DIN in today, I can mount it, recessed into the dash, so should be able to hide it behind a panel of some sort. biggrin.gif

How would that work exactly? Would the camera have to be facing in the direction of the intruder? Or is it a motion sensor camera?

... as for the original comment - all the money you're saving on this new deck; you should invest in a new alarm! tongue.gif

I believe its a stationary camera. I suppose you could make it a motion sensor camera, but that'd be a whole other system; and not related to the alarm. It's totaly possible though. (i'll spare you my mental blue-prints on how it'd be done tongue.gif , PM me for that)

But still, you could put it right in the middle of your dash, so you'd see someones face as they're ripping your stuff. Or put it far back on the top of the dash to see both driver and passager seats so you know what they're wearing and everything. Makes it easier to... "Identify"... (although that's not what i'd say if this was a Texas bassed forurm tongue.gif )

Seriously though, I want this alarm, and i've got some cheap-o radio rolleyes.gif

Double dins are awesome, i like being able to EQ my whole system through mine(kenwood ddx512)

The only downside i've noticed is that you will get pretty bad glare if the sun is behind you... like you have to drive with sunglasses and have tinted windows... but my eyes are really light senesitive, so take that with a grain of salt.

honestly we drive 14 year olds cars, most people are looking to rip off our head units... if your ride is all pimped out you will attract more attention. But just adding a double din in someone would have to go peek in through your windows and be like "oh lets break into this one" honestly i doubt that adding a double din would increase your chances of it getting stolen...

upgraded alarms are the way to go, always...

Yeah!! And if 2DIN fit with dash is good, it looks almost is STOCK radio...like some AC control or something...
But always put Alarm first and big red led flashing in dash !!! smile.gif
~

Forgot to say, not all 2DIN car players fits perfectly in 2DIN open dash.
Maybe you need to sand to correct size.
My player is 6,5" screen. No sand was necessary.
But 7" inch screen need to be sand.

not straight.. you need to adjust it. It looks like a half-ass job. Unit looks good though.

Cheers!! LOL,

Yeah, I know, it's not straight but I'm working on it!! At least I got it in there though!

I've recessed it into the dash a little, allows me to cover it up when I'm not in the car.

It's like a couple of mm higher on the right than the other side, so need to adjust it. (not sure how I'm gonna do that as I've used the original Celica bracket on the right-hand side - I'll have to make a new bracket)

Actually, looking at the pic, the bottom edge looks worse than the top, this must be what you're looking at?

I'm afraid that's down to the curvature of the dash and the fact the unit's got a flat front and I've recessed it into my dash.

Mine is straight as hell and perfect. Then again, it's only single DIN.
