Better MPG Options

I always make sure to have my tires properly inflated, but I usually only get 400 miles to my tank, which equates to about 25 MPG. Now, I always used to drive so I wouldn't go over 3k RPM so as to conserve gas...however, I've experimented giving it a bit more gas with my last full tank, letting it go up to about 3.5-4k. I'm actually noticing better gas mileage, as the actual gauge doesn't go down as irregularly as it used to (deposit on the fuel thing?) and I've gone about 360 miles until I got to empty, and if I killed the whole tank, it would get me around 420.

Possibly just coincidence since this is the first time I've done it, since it doesn't really make sense. Discuss.

is the gas tank the same size for gt and st? and is it like 15.4 gallons? i guess im asking what the official size is
and im getting like 22-25 all city, shifting at like 2k-2.5k but i have a gt so i dunno how different that is

Don't divide the amount of miles you drive by the tank capacity, divide it by the amount you filled according to the gas pump.

do what i do, fill your tank, reset your trip meter, and than drive and refill your tank. take the mileage and divide it by the gas in the tank and that's what you're getting per gallon.

doing that i think i get around 27-28per gallon

My Celi used to get about 27 mpg all around, but for some reason lately I've started getting 30 even. I haven't changed my driving style, I haven't modded or taken anything off, I drive to the exact same places.. Nothing has changed EXCEPT for one thing. I switched from Kroger fuel to Huck's. My car even idles smoother now. Rough idling was my reason for switching to begin with. I think Kroger fuel is watered down too much here in so-Ill so my car was having to use more fuel to get the same burn as less watered down fuel. Am I insane for having that theory?

But I also noticed my gas mileage went up when I stopped shifting at 2,000 rpm and changed it to about 3,500. That raised it from 25 up to 27.

yeah a lot of the time you can actually use more fuel if you are too higher gear, say if you are in 5th gear going up a hill and the car is struggling a touch you are better off going down to 4th, but on a straight or downhill road 2k revs should be fine.

60 liters (or about 15.9 gallons) is the size of US celica fuel tanks.

Of course I always reset the odometer so I know how much I'm driving, duh.

But going by the fuel pump is sort of hard, I've never actually emptied the whole tank, therefore I can't now how much is left.

BTW, I do have an auto.
