I have been a st205 owner for just over a week now... and its not been pretty.

Stage one, fix the clunk in the suspension - bottom arms needed replacing + wheel alignment = $980
Stage two, sort out the perished intake - this worked out ok and managed to scam some written off intake pipe from another kit to bodgy something together as a mid term soltion.
Stage foura good one, knock sensor need replacig from what i can tell... getting code 52 with diagnostic check. Is this a common issue? What else can go wrong? I am hanging out to get this thing running without being in 'limp mode'. Oh and thanks to Manawatu Toyota for a grat price on a new KS.

I upgraded (or is that a down grade?) from a JZX100 Mark II. Toyotas are suppose to be bullet proof and already I have dumped around $1500 into it in just 7 days...

And to top it off someones Nana decided giving way is for suckers... car is off to the shop this week to get some panel and paint.

The fig 8 suspension is the main thing to check on these cars, it only lasts 60,000 miles then needs rebuilding, you should have checked this before you bought, bit late now i know tongue.gif

I don't see how you can call that 10-15yo car a lemon because you had to do a little bit of normal maintenance kindasad.gif You DID opt for a turbo performance vehicle after all.

make lemonade.

Used cars are usually attached with issues.

Brand new cars with issues are lemons. But anyways. Celicas are very reliable, but it depends of the care it has received. Like he said before. the figure 8 is the most problem in the gt4

Sweet as man.

Nice part of the country.

Yea i wouldn't call it a lemon. maybe a dog.

Once you get it running good i believe you will be very happy with it.

It always pays to get a pre-purchase inspection done.

Yeap, shouldnt have rushed into it or at least done some more research - thought it was an ok deal ($5k) and it just needed a bit of time and some minor jobs... to top i off it looks like i got a leaking water pump or something around there now.
I once owned a Rover Tomcat, a few painfull memories of that thing came flooding back...

They have a pretty fierce rep from what i have heard so looking forward to getting it straight and going for a decent fang.

Anyway, off on holiday for a couple of weeks so this can just wait till I return!

$5k does seem cheap. i paid that for my SSII about a year ago. yea i know probably a bit steep.

ive been a gtt caldina and that mean so i would expect a gt4 to be better.

Have a good holiday.

Happy ending...
After sorting out the dented panels, water pump, belts, seals, knock sensor its running pretty much as it should - no leaks or limp mode. As its the 1st (and only) GT4 i have driven it is surprisingly quick and fun to drive.

It seems worth the hassle now (just need to find more time to drive it)

Yeah I am not sure who put it in, might have had giant hands? Not really my scene and is on the list for removal.
Car also came with some other classy items... giant tacho (with shft light), dragon seat covers and fake chrome check plate floor mat things - not cool.

Eww, and all that on a GT-4? I would burn whatever you remove in hopes of the car forgiving you...probably why some things crapped out. biggrin.gif
