ok heres the story, Im on the highway on the streets of miami with a friend, we had just left from hooters. I have an automatic 94 celica with an intake and an exhaust thats pretty much it. Well anyways im on the highway and a 2002 civic passes by me with the window half down and two guys looking at me, i know he had some **** in it, it had exhaust and tvs, but i dunno if there was anything under the hood. it was a 2 door ex coupe model. He passes by me lookin at us, and my friend says take it to him, so i caught up to him did the same thing then we were off even. The street was pretty much empty, it was about 1 in the morning. well anyways we were toe to toe, and i think there limiter is about 110 so his car was slowing down, but mines kept going, then i hit the overdrive button, and i was gone. did i make them feel like ****.

not good at all turning off OD is turning off 4th gear. you were going 110 in 3rd? i hit the OD off one time at 105 on accident and it sounded bad and made that rev limiter bouncing noise. always leave OD on, it will save you some gas and the difference in acceleration is too small to warant the extra burned gas. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

if it lights up, it's off.
OD is just an extra gear. instead of having four drive gears registered on the shifter, you have three and a button. I see no way of getting better acceleration with it off. That's like telling a guy with tha manual not to shift into 5th while he is driving in 3rd, get it? Also, you get better economy with OD on, because you have an extra gear. Jon |

OD doesn't do anything on take off... the reason for OD is for when your on the Highway at a high speed and want to pass some one... just take the OD of and you have some extra TQ to pass some granny or some Civic.lol... if your diving in the city just keep it on all the time..

civic ex has 15 less hp and alot less torque... you could have beat him while hauling a trailor... And OD is the same as fifth gear on a manual, depending on the manual. Celica's have a 5 spd OD manual, fifth gear being your gas conserving gear.

yeah the od off in a celica is pathetic... i drove STX the other day, compared to my sister's mustang, it was soo disappointing pressing that button... on the mustang you press od off and the car hauls ass... it redlines and everything before changing gears... didnt notice difference in STX.... anyway never be too prowd of beating a civic, after all it is still a civic. and od is not an extra gear... when od is off the car knows to shift late in the gear, and to basically haul ass. for us stick shift drivers. its the same as downshifting... so turning it on wont help you lunch the car... but if its rolling start...thent he car downshifts... and hauls ass... dont know if its the same case in the celica thou... ive been driving my sis's 2k mustang for last month or so while my car is in the shoop getting new engine... when its done, the civic si can kiss my ass....

OD is a gear. Turning it off will only cause a surge if you are already in OD. How long the car waits to shift has to do with how much pressure you are putting on the skinny pedal. |

OD : is overdrive... there is a button to turn it off... when it is off, its like shifting late in gears. when it is on, it is like shifting early in gears.... everyone should get stickshift.... only girls drive automatic: hell most girls i know drive stick This post has been edited by XXX_Mina: Nov 8, 2003 - 11:26 PM |
