I didn't want to stuff this in the NA or FI forums for fear of a lack of input. It concerns both schools of knowledge.

I'm wondering what the differences are between the the 3rd Gen 3SGE head and the 3rd Gen 3SGTE head. They are different part numbers so there has to be a difference. I want to know what they are. I know about the cams and all that blah blah blah. Specifically, I am talking about the chunk of aluminum we call the head; Not it's sub-components.

Does anyone have input on the matter?

So I guess the forum members here are meaning to tell me and bsilk that the collective knowledge of 6gc.net can't tell us about ST202 SSII or ST205 heads? I seriously thought would be the forum where I'd get my questions answered.

I don't know. But if I had to guess I think it would have something to do with a difference in the valves and/or springs, clearances for the cams and cam caps. Just because the part numbers are different does not necessarily mean the "chunk of aluminum we call the head" is the difference, most Toyota heads come fully assembled with the valves, springs, seats, keepers, cam caps, etc.

Of course they come assembled. But I don't care about any of that. And when we are talking part numbers, yes, we are, in fact talking about the cylinder head itself ("chunk of aluminum"). If you have the part number and stroll in to the dealer and say, "I want that", they would order it (supposing it was available) and a week later a "chunk of aluminum" would be there waiting for you......no cams.....no valves......nada, save for alumninum. 97% of all the parts that make up your Celica can be individually purchased. Perhaps more than 97%.

Thanks for stopping by rusty. I'm glad someone showed up that actually has one of these things. I don't know about any difference in valve angles or head bolt locations. I'm assuming they are the same.

No. What I meant is that if you walk into your local Toyota dealer and order the cylinder head, in a week or two you will get the head with the valves, seats, keepers, springs and the cam caps already in it. The valves are machined to seat into the head perfectly; the springs, seats, and keepers hold in the valves so you need those; the cam caps are line bored to match that particular head; yes you can get all these things separately but that doesn't mean you can get a complete head without all those things. So there may be no difference in the "chunk of aluminum" but if there is a difference in the valves or springs or keepers or cam caps thats why theres a difference in the part number.

might take a few days, I'll have to ask a guy I know who builds 3S for rallying. (biggrin.gif 2009 is the year for my celica)

or a quicker way ask these guys?

No, not really. They were fine and revealed some useful information during the buildup of my wiring harness. All in all, they helped.

I have a serious problem though. I'm confused as hell as to where some of these vacuum lines go. I'm nearly an expert at this point with regards to the 3rd Gen 3SGE vacuum system That should say a lot about how hopelessly confused I am.
